Well its the last game of the season and we welcome the U's to Adams Park to finish our rollercoaster of a season with highs and lows all the way, in all comps August produced 2W 2D 3L including a real low loosing at home to the scum, it got worse in September loosing 4 in a row before hammering the Railwaymen 5-1, which was the start of 4 game winning run into October then another low when we lost at home to the Bees but after that we hit a purple patch throughout November, December and January with particular stand out wins against the Spirerites and the Lions but it all came to an end at White Hart Lane although we remain the last away team to score 3 there with just the one game left to play, February was a month too far 8 games with one solitary win but we came oh so close to a trip to Wembley, but in the last 2 months we nearly turned our season around with 5W 4D 2L if only we could have turned one of those draws into a win, so I will be expecting the ride to finish Saturday evening but you never know
We can all pick games where we should have done better Crawley comes to mind with them doing the double over us.
I was thinking more recently the draw with Cheltenham in which apart from the first twenty minutes we hammered them
Sadly at the end of the season we can look back on the very poor start and the games we should have won (cheltenham im especially thinking of) and say they cost us, which barring a miracle they have. Some real highlights from this season however - spurs away was genuinely one of the best games ive ever seen and the atmosphere was fantastic. Add to that chesterfield away and the shock result against crewe its fair to say weve had some memorable moments. The emergance of kashket and gape plus the surprising quality of bayo and the rejuvination of matty bloomfield and anthony stewart give hope going forward to next season. Sadly some negatives too - the long losing runs at the start of the season and midway through are a worry, plus various issues in defence at different parts of the season. I also worry that being too one dimensional has cost us, which gaz needs to look to address next season. Stevenage away and both the colchester games have been real lowlights, plus notts county at home. Off the pitch the pierre business is also memorable for the wrong reasons, and i think will see him go at the end of the season All in all a mixed season with more positives than negatives. I dont totally rules us out of the playoffs tomorrow, but i cant see 3 teams dropping points. More of an essay than I was initially going to write! But lets hope we win tomorrow and pray for favourable results!!!
We really have been pretty average for most of the season, apart from that great run when Kashket was fit and scoring. However I would say we are still on course for the clubs 5 year plan. In previous seasons we wouldn't have been strong enough to stay up if we got promoted. But I reckon as we own most of the squad they will get better next season and we should be fighting for promotion and should be in a better position to survive the following season. Although as its so close it makes it harder to take, I am overall very happy with the season. (I would love a trip to Wembley of course).
Tomorrow could have been a nail biting finish had we won last Saturday. As it is, it is, for me, an anti climax, probably ending in a draw. The game against Spurs was the highlight by a mile. We will be telling that story for years
Bugger. As expected, Blackpool leading against Orient. That means (assuming they go on to win) that Carlisle, Stevenage and Colchester must all fail to win
