    It has started already.

Farms have been hit with a shortage of the migrant workers that Britain relies on to bring in the fruit and vegetable harvests, according to a series of new reports.

There was a 17% shortfall in May, leaving some farms critically short of pickers, according to a new National Farmers Union (NFU) survey. The decline is blamed on Brexit, with the vote to depart the EU leaving the UK seen as “xenophobic” and “racist” by overseas workers, according to the director of a major agricultural recruitment company.

Judging by the early reports coming out of the meeting between the UK and EU, things are moving in the right direction, even if the PM is trying to spin things to make it look that she is concerned about people. The EU published their requirements for foreign nationals 10 days ago, and they were there for everyone to see. To now try and say that the EU must match her proposals is a little disingenuous as they are better than what she is offering. There is talk of the UK asking people to register if they are from the EU as they have no idea who is in the country. Surely a huge failure of the Home Office.

What I would wish to know is who will oversee the implementation of an agreement and follow up that it was not being changed. The logical body would be the ECJ,

    Happy Brexit Day - everyone.

The 1st anniversary of the day 52% of the electorate apparently voted according to what was written on the side of a bus...

Theresa May single-handedly blocked a plan to immediately guarantee the future rights of EU citizens in the UK last summer, George Osborne has revealed.

The then-Home Secretary was the only member of the Cabinet to oppose David Cameron, who “wanted to reassure EU citizens they would be allowed to stay”.

“All his Cabinet agreed with that unilateral offer, except his Home Secretary, Mrs May, who insisted on blocking it,” revealed the Evening Standard, now edited by Mr Osborne.

Rather a different story to the one that was put about earlier.

How can one person - not even the top dog - have that sort of power? I never realised that Cabinet decisions were only made with an absolute majority. :(

I did wonder that myself and considered if Osborne was twisting history, but cannot believe he would have published it if untrue.

I think that the issue of Osborne and the truth could merit a whole thread to itself...

"Officials from HM Customs and Revenue are in Belfast for a series of meetings with business groups.

It is understood they are beginning a fact-finding process about border trade issues."

Beginning to find out some facts now? What has been happening for the last year? <grr>

Didn't think the vote would go that way! That's why the rules were so lax. Should have required a 70% majority, as is required for such fundamental constitutional changes in other countries, but no! We'll let people be swayed by the right wing, non-dom owned press. All this crap to just save the poxy tory party from nigethenazi... makes my blood boil.

Judging by the speeches given by Hammond and Davis yesterday, there is no clear idea in government still as to how to leave the EU. Davis says that this is more complex than a moon landing. I didn't know that he had experience of organizing one. He also says that the transitional arrangements must be complete by 2022 as there will be another election. Hammond and now Downing Street refused to agree with him. Hammond is clearly saying what I think he believes about having a Brexit that is hardly noticeable, and at the same time making his case to lead the majority of the Tory party MPs who think the same way. Some very clear mocking of Boris from him will stand him in good stead with large numbers of his party who now can see what a state of chaos Boris, Gove and others helped to create.

Corbyn has had a gift handed to him by the deal with the DUP. Money that is not available is suddenly found. Tax money that is being used to secure votes that they would have had anyway. If Corbyn cannot make capital out of this he will be just another left wing leader who failed to make the grade.

Today Mme received a letter from the County Council who pay her pension to inform her that the American bank who will in future be making payments to her now had a presence in Paris. To safeguard payments, it suggested that she should consider having payments made into her French bank account direct from Paris, rather than the existing English bank as it could take longer in future to arrive. It is all little things like this which show that some are fearing the worst and preparing for it.
