    Right.

In fact top player prices may not have kept with general player price inflation:

    From the Mirror:

Rio's switch puts him top of the tree ahead of Alan Shearer's £15m move from Blackburn to Newcastle in 1996, a switch which would be worth a cool £106.3m today.

The full top 10 looks like this:
    1. 2002 Rio Ferdinand - Leeds to Man United - then £29,100,000 now £113,910,017.84
    2. 1996 Alan Shearer - Blackburn to Newcastle £15,000,000 £106,381,568.38
    3. 2006 Andriy Shevchenko - AC Milan to Chelsea £30,800,000 £97,349,399.86
    4. 2014 Angel Di Maria - Real Madrid to Man United £59,700,000 £94,523,738.27
    5. 2005 Michael Essien - Lyon to Chelsea £24,400,000 £93,828,582.60
    6. 2004 Didier Drogba - Marseille to Chelsea £24,000,000 £90,419,198.48
    7. 2016 Paul Pogba - Juventus to Man United £89,250,000 £89,250,000.00
    8. 2013 Mesut Ozil - Real Madrid to Arsenal £42,500,000 £85,830,609.63
    9. 2011 Sergio Aguero - Atletico Madrid to Man City £31,500,000 £81,397,471.29
    10. 2008 Robinho - Real Madrid to Man City £36,500,000 £79,791,402.17
Ferdinand and shearer are the most expensive players in British history...so far but would be eclipsed by Coutinho if LFC takes the Barcelona offer.

Here IS a quick point - the only thing that is relevant is that Barca have £200m in their pocket and we don't need to sell.

Meh.... as I've said numerous times player thinks he is all that can **** off. For the right price.

As I said if we can sit down and hear rumours for real value in draxler, Höwedes and horn while we watch pure ****e on the pitch... he would be gone and that three would be in quick smart for me...

And just which Brexiters colour pair of glasses were used to come up with those rates of inflation.....

I note pogba has not been adjusted at all, yet the consumer index alone would adjust the not by what..2% 1.6 mil.

    It is absolutely rubbish angle.

Oh come on, even those who'd sell Ford for this reason and that, when you look at the details it just doesn't make sense, and even the basic £80m is ****ing staggered. Maybe Ford should throw his ****ing teddy out of the cot and in the direction of Barca this time - if they REALLY wanted him they'd use that ****ing cash they got for Neymar. Again, it begs the question, just how were they going to pay that £72m they put in for Ford before Neymar left? And all those sagacious, patronising ex-pros on MoTD and Sky wittering about it being best to take the money and let an unhappy player go - what ****ing money? By time we get it, it'd be inflated away both by real world economics and, more practically, in terms of football economics.

Absolute right. I thought they had made a £120m cash offer. Everything is staggered and there are unrealistic add ons. Meaning that LFC would be in a disadvantaged position should we make a bid in competition with another club.

The club was definitely right to reject this last offer.

On these terms, everybody must see that there is no advantage whatsoever in selling Ford, no matter what tantrums he may throw. Even if they come back with £150m and it's structured like this it is total lunacy to accept it. Perhaps even Ford can see that too - under what moral obligation that some twerps have been suggesting in the media do we owe Coutinho a move under this arrangement? Ah, big bad Liverpool denying poor little, wonderful servant Phil his dream move - **** that: Barca have £200m cash (at least) in the bank and they expect never-nevers and add-ons. There's your bogey man Mr Ford snr, not LFC, not Jurgen and certainly not us.

Now I really want us to slap £70 cash on the table for Keita and show them how to do it. Even if we do t have that much, imagine how embarrassed they'd be for a few days until everyone found out we couldn't afford it!! <grr> <whistle>

That is a particularly stupid offer. It is as you say so stupid as to question if they actually need us yo reject it to have an excuse to tell their fans.

Multiple trophies and the balon d'or... in one year for a few mil.

But 80mil over 5 years is just absolute tosh.

As I said 100million all up front and he is theirs.

Imo that bid screams please turn me down, not even a decision there

Not the biggest ones no... but when...not if.... lfc finish 6th this will be thrown in our faces when the real story should be fsg and/or klopp failing to do good business at all.

There are still questions to be asked... was there really money available... really? Did we bid on keita expecting to sell a few lads or even coutinho and when it failed everything went off? Who knows.... has klopp really only two targets?

There will be recriminations over this window imo irrespective of how Coutinho plays or doesn't play......imo lfc have looked symbolic so far and if that continues for even a month we will be out of the race for 4th. So done will feel the need yo pass the buck and coutinho is extremely convienent to bury the truth

Sadly lfc and fsg record with the truth and fans is at best poor. That's bring kind

Höwedes is average, slow and getting on a bit; no thanks.

I didn't see any of Draxler at PSG but in Germany he never really fulfilled his potential.

Was apparently offered a five year contract in 2013 but he rises to force through a move, insisting he'd only move if the club put him on the transfer list.

Shame he didn't give a go, respect his loyalty to Brod was ****ing him over at the time and he ended up leaving for his homeland just twelve months later too.
