Arguably the greatest English qualified cricketer to never win an England cap. To those of us of a certain age, a true sporting legend & a great gentleman. RIP Don http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/wales/40989272
No argument about it. 'Shep' was THE ONLY England qualified cricketer to have taken in excess of 2,000 wickets, and was never capped. Alan Jones was THE ONLY English qualified cricketer to have scored in excess of 30,000 runs, and was never capped. They both played for Glamorgan. Make of that what you will. RIP
A sad loss indeed he brought me and many others many hours of entertainment. His attitude to the game was excellent, I remember watching him when I was about 10 or 11 at Neath and he came in to bat and there was only one way he was going to play as he peppered the rugby field with a few sixes. But it was his bowling,. primarily at St Helens, that was a joy to watch. With some wonderful close fielders surrounding the bat he completely took control. RIP Don a true Glamorgan legend
RIP Shep. Never seen him play. Well before my time. Just seen he had a average of just over 21 with the ball. That is phenomenal and no caps.!!!! I presume Jim Laker was around anyone else. Listening to Radio Wales they more or less said Glamorgan , Gloucester and Somerset players seemed to be ignored in those days. Also didn't realise Alan Jones cap was taken off him. Always thought Greg Thomas Watkin an Maynard were hard done by with England.
