We've certainly conceded goals from set pieces all season. Which is strange because we've had a decent defence at times. Even pre Silva, once a few of the injuries came back we had Dawson and Davies playing in the middle yet still conceded loads from set pieces. Think WBA scored 4 against us in two games before Phelan left. So it's hard to see how a particular system is at fault. I do wonder how much people would talk about zonal marking if managers and pundits didn't point it out first. Can't say I've ever been at a game and observed that we're using zonal marking or otherwise.
I wasn't quoting you. Do you mean a life that involves International travel, experience new cultures etc? Then I have a life. How is your life stacking shelves? Can you write a sentence without an expletive?
And then the defender marking that zone should pick it up. I didnt say Harry wasnt doing his job I was referring to the defender who was meant to be defending that zone Its simple you have your best defenders (of corners) defending the most dangerous zones and then the other players defending the remaining zones just like you would have your best defenders marking the most dangerous attackers (of corners). Both systems have problems its finding the one that works best for the players you have. Personally I prefer a mix of both man marking the most dangerous attackers and then the rest defending the zones but even that has its problem that defenders can get in each others way
Bore off you ****ing prick. You have all that allegedly but spend your life on here correcting posts. ****er
The best defender in the world can't get up above an attacking player who has a five yard run on him.
I'm not giving you any more oxygen. Mods sort the boring **** out its ****ing tedious reading his unfunny ****
Who said anything about a static player. The defender knows the zone they are covering they shouldnt just stand in the middle of it waiting for the ball. They need to stand a yard goal side of it or just on the edge of the zone so they can move into the zone as the corner is being taken and adjust as they see the trajectory of the ball.
I repeat, which posts did I correct? You are mixing me up with someone else. Nobody forces you to read my posts. My jokes are aimed at intelligent, educated people on the whole. Would you continuously swear at me like this in real life?
You've obviously not seen how we defend it then. Our players line up along the 6 yard line. That's what we do. Why do you think ranoccia etc are stood flat and they are high up above them?? Because they are taking a Run at the corner.
Thats what I was trying to get at in an earlier post its how the system is deployed/how the players operate it, not the system itself Its the same with man marking its a perfectly good system when used properly but if you dont pick up your man or get blocked off the system wont work
Except in Zonal marking no one has a specific player to mark. It's all down to guess work until more often than not the keeper is picking the ball out of the back of the net. Man marking there's no confusion, it's quite clear on what your job is. I have never seen zonal marking working well.
indeed it is guesswork as there are no painted lines on the pitch to show the 'zones' so an instant's hesitation can be fatal when a defender asks himself, 'is this ball mine or his?'
Must win game tomorrow. I'd go 4-3-3 Elmo or Ellab Maguire Frog Robbo N'diaye Hudd Clucas Niasse Abel Grosicki
Got to win but if we're too gung ho about it I think we'll get caught on the break, I'd start with: Jak Elab, Ranocchia, Harry, Robbo Hudd, N'Diaye, Clucas, Evandro, Grosicki Niasse And make use of Maloney, Abel, etc as needed.
If Elmohamady is in the starting line up tomorrow, I am going to remove my eyes using a table spoon, and then ask someone to grate them down a pebbledash wall, and feed the remnents to a passing stray cat.
