http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/f...mpey-schoolboy-gets-england-call-up-1-7869831 Apropos of that, the Portsmouth Evening News reports that a one-time Pompey schoolboy has been called up.
I'm not saying that. Simply that JWP's use of language is unusual. Rooney was a football genius at a tender age, but would hardly have been called eloquent. The way he was parodied in the press annoyed me. In his pomp he was brilliant at playing football - what more did we want him to do? He is not stupid, and despite everything seems a very level human being who is very generous with his time and money in supporting charities. But no-one would ever describe him as an eloquent speaker. JWP's eloquence is icing on the cake. He is an intelligent footballer who has improved dramatically this season, and that's what I judge him on first and foremost. My other point was that JWP would probably kill to have Rooney's natural ability, but he is a hard working intelligent guy who makes the best of his talent. Comparisons with Beckham spring to mind!
I just had the terrible thought of how devastated they would be if one of these two gets an injury against Spurs. Really hope they actually make it to the England camp after all this celebration! Now I am going to be super nervous every time they get tackled.
Reluctant as I am to bring anyone down, aren't we in danger of forgetting the obvious; England are a bit crap. Far more of an achievement getting picked to play for Morocco tbf.
I think Claude's just said that JWP is a joy to work with and ideal son-in-law material?? Sure that's what he said! Nathan, on the other hand, could listen a bit more. Oh well, you can't win em all. I remember reading an article a couple of years ago, I think it was following an interview with Alan Pardew, that suggested we were populating the premier league with "middle class" footballers, and how difficult it would be for the Mersons and Gascoignes of this world to fit in these days.
Didn't James have to get special dispensation so that he didn't have to wear the Saints training gear to Staplewood on training and match days. Had to travel from Portsmouth in mufti.
Yep, he said that. Here are the quotes: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/s...29.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Only if he doesn't have the carpet pulled from under his feet, and is given a chance to do it his way with no interference.
Do you reckon Nathan's listening more now?! I thought he was a good player when he signed for us, but just lately he has been transformed. His work with Ryan Bertrand hasn't done him any harm. After the semi-final at Anfield, a Liverpool mate told me he thought Nathan was "bloody terrifying". Still, I'm sure the Reds could make him mediocre again.
