does anyone else think that these "bids" are actually just a pathetic publicity stunt to try and pretend that roman still has cash to spend? it's fairly obvious that liverpool and athletico would reject these "bids" which is what chelsea want because they are only trying to pretend that they can spend this sort of money. i mean why are they argueing over a couple of million for this luiz guy (who will be a huge flop btw) if they have so much money to spend? the fact is that despite all their cost cutting recently they are still making huge losses and they have no intention of buying aguero or torres they just want to pretend they are a big club.
Ok lets get one thing right here. Roman isnt broke by any stretch, but he does have a world cup to pay for which wont come cheap. And chelsea have to meet the ffp rules. Personally I think they will get luiz this jan and aguero in the summer. He just signed a new deal which halved his release clause to about 30 million. torres did the same thing 6months before he left atleti.
Well what we can deduce from this is wha we knew all along. Chelsea's youth is not what they made it out to be and now they are desperately trying to go on one last splurge before the FFP regulations come in. Kakuta is a very poor man's Robinho with far less end product than even the wayward Brazilian and McEachren is okay but more steady than anything. Jeffrey Bruma? Well, he's just terrible. They concede goals galore when he plays. That's why they are signing Luiz.
They are definitely panic bids as they don't even need strikers, its obvious to everybody they are struggling in defence.
I personally can't believe they got shut of all those decent squad players last summer. Players like Ballack, Deco, Cole, Beletti etc weren't world-beaters, but they were very reliable cover. You could understand if they had some top-class youth coming through that they were willing to show faith in, but didn't Ancelotti play Ferreira at centre-half recently instead of giving Bruma a go? Doesn't bode too well for their future does it?
Chelsea don't have the strength in depth and it clearly shows. Roman is not keen to part with money these days either because he doesn't really support his manager or because he expected the youth policy to be producing half decent players by now. I remember about 3 years after Roman took over, Peter Kenyon said that the plan was not too keep on spending loads of cash but to invest and start producing talented young players. He actually said "We've spent an awful lot on our academy and one of our longer-term business plans is to ensure we have this mixture of home-grown talent along with buying some of the best footballers from anywhere in the world." Yeah working a treat.
