Painfull but two clubs in opposite trajectory. I won't blame him if he took the chance but believe he'll have better options in the summer and he knows it as well. The club will sit back empty handed.

It will be a Premier League club if he goes in the window. Palace might tempt him...

    Brighton <laugh>
Although i think Charlie needs to move on. Our club has once again messed things up.
    Good luck wherever he goes.

Pardew has said Palace are not interested in signing Charlie after Colin's helpful comments. He added "Warnock was manager here and didn't do very well, so I'm not interested in his opinion".

    Handbags!

Of all the jewels in our crown it would appear Mr Austin is the equivalent to the Kohinoor and we should not be mugged off with offers less than the £15million our club value him at. The real fear isn't that Charlie is allowed to go, rather our inept negotiators agree to let him join another club on transfer deadline day leaving us no chance to get a replacement at the last minute. Lest we forget it was our shocking performance in the last January window that led to 'Arry departing.

Can JFH ponce anyone half decent from Burton Albion for us?

He can bugger off for nothing in a few months time so don't fool yourself into thinking we'll try holding out for anything anywhere near £15m

It's an interesting one. I think the club wouldn't need much more to accept a bid. They'd need to give him a pretty hefty sign-on fee on top of their transfer outlay too. Can't see it happening but Brighton are going for it in the right way.

I just don't get this thread,he's already said that he's not going anywhere until the summer. It's worth more to him personally to wait until then, and then take his pick of clubs to join. The club might receive an offer they deem worthy of selling him,but if he doesn't want to go then what can they do?They can't force him to go,and are they really likely to let him sit in the stands and see out his contract. He will be here until the end of the season,so can we please stop with all this pointless nonsense!

    Pure speculation, I agree.

Hypothetically, what if he were to get an injury in the Spring that would see him laid up for 9 months.

How would that scenario play out?

I'd expect a club would still take a chance on him on a free. Probably a (relatively) low wage for a year then better money the following season.

    Like Fabian Delph did....

Though I accept that Charlie seems to be a bit more principled.

The point I am defending is that until the transfer window 'slams shut' there's always a slim chance of the club or player's head being turned!

Don't forget that Charlie Austin would be entitled to a "loyalty" bonus if he's sold. Only way the club can awoid this is if they force him to put in a transfer request. So selling Austin for a cut down fee in January and paying out a loyalty bonus from that fee leaving the club with peanuts makes little sense. On top of that Austin will have far better options in the summer AND making more money on his move.

So unless one of the bigger clubs come calling with an inflated fee Austin stays for another six months.

Completely different, he made an agreement with villa and extended his deal meaning he couldn't be snapped up in a free. If anything he made villa millions when he could have gone for nothing. Very shrewd on the part of both him and club. The equivalent to be clear would be Charlie signing a new deal now with say a 10 million buy out clause. He knows he can go, the club at least get something and he perhaps gets enhanced wages to end of season.

Apparently he got a bit upset that we didn't accept a couple of offers in the summer, so he is staying as retribution. Also if green plays 3 more games he will be entitled to a years extension on his contract. So prepare to have Smithies or Lumley playing games soon. I still think that Palace is his best bet with their wingers.
