I take Hudds after the borest of bore draws 1-0 penalties after 30 pens with previous 29 hitting corner flags
I wanted Huddersfield to get through, but still feel short changed for paying out £6.99 to now TV for that.
to be honest that boring fooka stam just sets his team s up to be defensive ..so he got what he deserved
Horrible match. Hudds will struggle big time next year. Most of their best players will now depart back to parent clubs.
Hmmm...Burnley, Swansea, Brighton, Watford, Leicester, etc...they've definitely got a chance. Wagner just needs to get his head out of his arse and be ready for a scrap. But yeah and the talk of "sensational story" and "fairytale season" glosses over what a crap match it was.
And why is the Sky Sports stoodge saying Huddersfield have "done the impossible"? Okay theyre a small club, but Barnsley, Swindon, Cardiff, Bradford, blah blah have been in the Prem, dont over-egg this, this is nowhere near Leicesters achievement last year. And now Patrick Stewart's doing dramatic voice overs, this is getting nauseating.
I'm a Yorkie so should be supporting Hudds but the third best team in that league over the season didn't go up. It should be on merit and they should get rid of these stupid play offs. Table doesn't lie.
Hmmm, Huddersfield gave up with 5 games or so to go and were clearly saving themselves for the play offs, they were the only team that was consistently challenging the top 2 for most of the season. Reading had a late run, but they were never challenging for an automatic place. Table doesnt lie in the sense that the top 2 deserve automatic promotion, the teams in the play offs deserve to be in the play offs, and those that go down deserve to go down. A team that finishes third doesnt have the automatic right to say they deserve to go up.
Don't you think it wrong that the third best doesn't go up? Your point about teams not doing their best at the end to 'save themselves' is valid.. but you wouldn't get that with a merit based approach to promotion so is surely a more fairer approach. It works for relegation and Euro qualification... so why should promotion be different? Play offs are nothing more that a theatrical money generator for the EFL. As Toon fans we missed out on promo once when finishing third when the Mackems took Swindon's place don't forget mate.
No, I totally support the play offs, the leagues would be dire without them - it gives the mid table teams something to play for and generates far more excitement and surprises around the end of the season, if a team in 12th or something knows that a good run at the end potentially has the chance of getting them promoted. If it was just the top 3 going up, then the season would be over for any team outside the top 6 by February. The Swindon example is a bit of a funny one, its never happened before, and the fa were in a bit of an awkward place trying to make a decision on who deserved to go up. There were arguments for both sides, but we'd made a huge **** up by not turning up against the mackems in pur play off, so that was always going to.count against us. Likewise Portsmouth in 93, pushing us all the way for most of the season, then ****ed it up at the very end and West Ham sneaked 2nd, Portsmouth were 12 points ahead of the team in 6th. Then they ballsed up the play offs and Swindon went up. Did Portsmouth deserve promotion more than Swindon? Not at all, table doesnt lie and all the qualified for was the play offs. Ps what have us ****ing up promotion in 91 and Pompey ****ing it up in 93.got.in common? Thats right its the fact that good ole Jim Smith was the manager of both teams when they failed, and both teams froze when they played the mackems (us in the play offs, and Pompey when they were on course for automatic promotion, and then got thumped by the mackems in the key match).
