We've had the puny group stages where the strong are divided from the embarrassingly weak... now it's down to the proper football.

The elite teams in Europe are all on show this week and next.

We've already seen PSG tan Barca 4 zip and Benfica take a 1-0 lead into their second leg against Dortmund.

Bayern play Arsenal tonight while City and Leicester play Monaco and Sevilla next week.

Can't go beyond Bayern this year, they look formidable.

  5. Well, this extremely ill-advised wum thread gets off to a crackingly bad start, as Arsenal are raped 5-1 by Bayern, and are all-but out of the competition with yet another whimper.

LCFC are next up for the slaughter. The one thing that they, now, have in their favour is that they are going to have to work extremely hard to **** things up so badly as to cause a greater embarrassment than Arsenal did.

Part of me wants LCFC to get through against Seville, and then to get drawn against Bayern in the next round. I think that game would produce the heaviest defeat for any team in competition's entire history. It would be a fascinating and thrilling spectacle for us neutrals - not so much for the rabid foxes, of course.

Anyway, great thread, Akky! Pure comedy gold, mate.

Only three hours sleep Gimp? This is ill advised. Arsenal qualified from their group to face europes elite unlike Spurs who embarrassed British football by failing to qualify from the easiest group. Your deflecting tactics haven't worked as you desperately try to hide that shame your small club has heaped on this great nation.

Ps. Try less bollocks and get more sleep, it won't end up well for you......please don't thank me. <ok>

...the real comedy gold happened at Wembley during the group stage ...shame you couldn't make it ...there were plenty of tickets for what might well have been the highlight of your season...a real shame...

I'm mentioning my team, I'm telling everybody the truth they probably don't want to hear but if you don't like it don't comment.

    Simple really Pasty.<ok>

Bar Chelsea and Man Utd, I always want English teams to do well.

However, Arsenal deserve this result (well, Wenger does) for insisting on picking a weaker keeper in CL games.

I reckon Leicester will go out this round unfortunately.

For once, I actually agree with one thing you said which is that it will now be more difficult (not impossible) for us to fulfill your prophecy.

Then you go off of your normal wum tangent describing yourself as a neutral which when it comes to LCFC is most definitely not true.
You also hint that if we get past Sevilla and get beaten heavily by the likes of Bayern, you will claim to have foreseen this. Just a word of advice, you will be embarrassing yourself so don't do it

If you are telling 'everyone' then why did you quote Hiag?

    Case closed.

The Champions League must be a constant disappointment for you then, seeing as Chelsea and Man Utd are the only two English teams who ever achieve anything in the competition these days.
Left up to the Arse and Spuds our coefficient would be in the gutter

Ironically you aren't having embarrassed Britain by failing to qualify from the easiest group. <rofl>

We didn't even get TO the group stages <laugh>

An Arsenal fan at work said to me yesterday when we were discussing the Bayern game that night: "Are you guys playing next week, then?" I was like....
"Erm....we finished 10th last year mate?"

Was kind of meaning that bizarre year where, in 10 months, you sacked AVB then won the CL, then failed to to qualify from the group stages the following season sand sacked your manager.
I think you then appointed rafa and won the EL.
That was a bizarre year even by chelsea standards
