Just seen this Championship league table on Sportsmole that shows how the league table would look if the games finished at half-time. It makes rather interesting reading, are our players not fit enough to last the whole 90 minutes of a game?

    Championship What If...?

    Games Ended at HT

    Team P GD PTS
    1 Newcastle United 23 14 46
    2 Brighton & Hove Albion 23 8 39
    3 Preston North End 23 7 38
    4 Fulham 23 7 37
    5 Norwich City
    23 6 36
    6 Reading 23 6 36
    7 Aston Villa 23 5 35
    8 Barnsley 23 4 35
    9 Derby County 23 5 32
    10 Nottingham Forest 23 -3 31
    11 Leeds United 23 3 30
    12 Birmingham City 23 0 29
    13 Sheffield Wednesday 23 0 29
    14 Cardiff City 23 -1 29
    15 Burton Albion 23 -1 28
    16 Huddersfield Town 23 -5 28
    17 Blackburn Rovers 23 -5 24
    18 Brentford 23 -6 24
    19 Rotherham United 23 -9 24
    20 Ipswich Town 23 -4 22
    21 Wigan Athletic 23 -7 21
    22 Bristol City 23 -8 21
    23 Wolverhampton Wanderers 23 -9 21
    24 Queens Park Rangers 23 -7 19

Apologies for the way the table has come out - it was copied from the website and pasted onto my post, to simplify they read position, Team, Games played, Goal Difference, Points. I have put City's position in bold (5th)

Jedi - the only way I've found of pasting a table like that is to do a screen print (prt sc on most PCs/laptops) paste it into Word or Paint and then crop it and paste it into not606 as an image. A bit long-winded, but I've found it works for me.

Interesting stats, Jedi, but I wonder how much of that was due to the first 12 games where we more often scored first and then hung on to win. Much of our current dilemma seems to be the opposite, because more often than not we've gone behind and then failed to catch up. The Brentford and Villa games showed the advantage of scoring the first goal and then going on from there. What we've lost lately is the ability to score early and then defend and break, which is one of our strengths. That depends upon getting ahead in the first place and our failure to take early chances has been critical, IMO.

I kind of see what you're saying RER, but defending and holding on to a lead are definately not one of our strengths. If anything the opposite.

That's true enough Canario, but scoring first denies the opposition the opportunity to sit back and counter. They have to come out and then they can be hit again. Our problem, IMO, is that lately we've gone behind and then been picked off again once we were chasing the game. I'm pretty sure we've won a large percentage of the games when we scored first. We just haven't been clinical enough in the first half lately.
