If there were 2 games left and we were say 4 points behind then yes I would agree we would then need someone to slip up. But we've 10 games left, some teams have 11. The chances are every team from Burnley/Watford downwards are going lose 2-3 games at least.
Well clearly the owners are in good company. Still baffled how anyone can talk in terms of any other team doing us a favour. It's a league. Each team plays the others twice. Each team tries to finish as high as they can. No one will be doing anyone else a favour ffs.
The day clubs do other clubs a favour is the end for the game. Having said that, other clubs can incidentally do us a favour by beating other clubs. Although as a I said to a fan of TWS who reckoned Leeds had helped us go up on the last day of the season, a result which didn't matter, the biggest help they had been was gifting us 6 points.
Tested formula is a point a game. Very rare it isnt enough, and it certainly will be fine this season with so many teams involved. It's a fact of life that everyone takes points off each, that's what makes the back end of the season so intriguing, you find yourself supporting all sorts of unlikely teams. If Burnley have that run of away games, presumably they have some top teams at home. Could still get drawn in. though every time I say that, they win another home game.
other teams dont intentionally set out to do us a favour, it is only their results that appear to help. I do predict that we will be fine. Getting sommat at Everton will be a great start.
Yes, still have Spurs and Man United at home - other 3 home games are Stoke, West Brom and West Ham (on the final day).....the last 3 are comfortably safe and hopefully WON'T be gusting a gut in the run-in.
It might just be that they have not won an away game because they have not yet played at Boro, Palace, Sunderland Bournemouth and Everton? These are a little better fixtures than away at any of the top 6
There's some crazy stat about Pulis only having one a single game after hitting 40 points in any of his PL seasons, it's nuts. So some teams clearly do stop trying once they hit targets.
How do we read this set of assertions ? I would suggest no manager, and the players he's managing, would ever stop trying to win the next game they play, however safe they were. If they did, it would be career suicide. Or were you joking ?
Why would I have been joking? It's a stat. A stat taken over 9 seasons. Southampton and others in recent seasons have hit mid-table and then there has been a noticeable drop off in player performances.
OK, so not joking, or being sarcastic about a stat. "Stop trying" is your conclusion ? Mind boggling.
I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at. Call it what you want. A drop off in concentration. A relaxation from the manager/owners after pre-season objectives have been reached. A desire to see out the season uninjured. Whichever it is, I'm not really sure why you're trying to argue with a stat. If it was a one-off then it could well be a coincidence, but this is season after season for Pulis.
