The first ever competitive meeting between the two sides takes place at the home of football, Deepdale, the Brewers only formed in 1950 have only been in the league since 2009 and have worked their way up to the Championship since then. Unlike some plastic clubs with rich people behind the scene they are an extremely run side who have not spent vasts amounts of money trying to buy their way up the leagues.
Now managed by Nigel Clough who returned to the club after Jimmy Floyd left in December 2015. Clough just about got them up after they stuttered in the run in and they finished second to the Pie Eaters from Wigan.
The last time I saw them Clough was also the manager in 2001 they lost a Northern Premier League game at Lancaster 1-0 also saw them when they had Ian Storey- Moore playing for them in an FA Trophy match at Chorley.
Clough has spent some money over the summerbringinging in a bit of experience in the shape of Jamie Ward, Lee Williamson, Chris O'Grady, his main purchase has been Jackson Irvine who he got from Scottish football for £330,000. Along with Williamson there are a couple of ex North Enders in the squad, Beavon and Moushino.
They started the season fairly well although defensively were slightly suspect, their last win was against Birmingham in a televised match, they have failed to score in five of the last six games and possibly the realities of how tough this division is are maybe starting to catch them up.
North End squad wise have a doubt about Gallagher, Welsh still injured and May played 70 minutes in the Lancashire cup match on Wednesday, maybe a bit to early for him though. Browne free of suspension is available. Expect us to win this although won't be easy.

All you can say about the result is that we just about deserved a point, following on last weeks less than impressive performance can safely say this was worse.
Within the first five minutes Turner had headed against the bar and an Irvine shot was excellently saved by Maxwell as Burton could have won the game early on. Adkins forced Maxwell into a save and then on 20 minutes Irvine scored for the Brewers from about 12 yards can't say that they did not deserve it.
North End were second best, passing, decision making were poor and looking back on it th balance in the side was not right needed to get down the wings to create danger. Five minutes before half time a ray of light a fine move put Robinson in on goal, McLaughlin made a brave save. This sparked the home side into action and deep into injury time a cross from the byline found Robinson who bundled the ball home much to the relief of the home support.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were all North Ends, Robinson was having a field day on the wing, chances for Baptiste and header from Clarke which landed on the top of the goal promised better things for the home side but the optimism soon fizzled away.
Burtion rarely threatened in the second half although they were almost gifted a second by a catalogue of errors starting with Wright slipping in the centre circle and ended up with Maxwell and Baptiste just about clearing the ball too safety.
North End continued to frustrate often pickuing the wrong pass and McGeady ability to beat the same man sixty time did eventually start to annoy people.
So a point each it was and for the third successive game we had a ref who had questionable parentage.
Hillsborough next week easy peasy but if we play like we did today it won't be.

Preston boss Simon Grayson said: "We started sloppily, they had early opportunities and got the goal. We were a long way short of our best.

"Everything we didn't do in the first half we did in the second half. We passed it quicker and stopped them from playing.

"If we'd started the first half as we started the second I think we'd have knocked the stuffing out of them and won the game. But we haven't and you have to earn every point in this division."

Burton manager Nigel Clough: "This result will do us good in terms of our spirit, but it also shows that we have what it takes to survive in this league.

"After we had dominated that match so much in the first half and had so many chances, we could have felt sorry for ourselves after half-time, but we didn't.

"Our reaction to conceding that goal was terrific. We came out and showed real spirit.

"Apart from one game against Reading last week we've shown that we can compete with everyone in this division."
