Not a good day that's for sure, but we are in a better position than what we were this time last year..
Well with all the injuries I just don't see how we are going to win any games. We will miss Kone and Pickford massively. Then there is Catts and Kirchoff who would make a huge difference in midfield. No more big Vic up front and you could argue Lens (on loan) and Zhazri (out of favour) would be our best bet on the wings. so our already poor first 11 has about 2 players left Defoe and PVA. Then there is Mvilla why we did not sign him but instead spent 13m on Ndong I will never know? all I can assume is Ndong is on small wages and the fee is spread over the term of his contract. We are in a mess and a big one at that. If Moyes can get us out of this he is the greatest manager that's ever lived.
I think if Moyes gets us out of this he's done it despite himself. He is at least partially responsible for the situation. Even though he had to do it in a rush, he over saw the poor recruitment in the summer and he's got his tactics wrong in several games. Any manager would struggle given the circumstances but I certainly don't think he's helped himself.
Still too early to be written off. It's not like we're not experienced in getting out of this situation. That injury list is a shocker though.
I'll have a dig at the lads if i feel they haven't performed, but deep down i am always optimistic and always feel confident we can escape the drop. Unfortunately i thin k this is the season where mother luck will turn her back on us and i'm resigning myself to the dreaded drop already. Pickford, Catts, Hoff, Big Vic, Kone, O'Shea, Denayer, 8 ****ing key players injured, we've got no money to spend and even if we did we'd but the FFP wage rule so there's little, or no chance of any incoming in January. All we need now to cap of an already ****e season, is for Defoe to get crocked against the bin dippers.
Chins up lads just watch us go and beat Liverpool. p/s On the plus side other results went ok for us.
After 19 games: 14 points this year 12 points last year 14 points 3 years ago. You're a long way from gone just yet. The main issue i see is that the team directly above you I only see Boro as potentially being less likely to get points than you. However if you get 38+ points you're fine.
Well I was delayed 3 hours but got upgraded to club world. So I am going to drown my sorrows with free Champagne. (Got to love BA). As for the football I will be up early to watch the bin dippers game and hope for a miracle. Am about to take off so Happy new year everyone.
E-mail from Dave ( don't know why I've started getting these, must be a PR blitz ): "It was a really poor performance; I’ve got no excuses for it. It was way below the levels we should be performing at. The goals we conceded were terrible and we didn’t make the most of any of the chances we created. We started well but that fell by the way side, it was a typical old fashioned game, and we just weren’t able to be typical and old fashioned at times. The boys kept going when it was tough at the end and the game had gone from us. It was too late by then because in that 15-minute period after half time we were poor and it’s cost us. We have to get ready for Liverpool now, no time to dwell. We have to dust ourselves down and go again. We’re going to have to do really well to get anything from the game on Monday and we need to go out and try and do that." Really disappointing performance and result and hope injuries are short term. Just another day in paradise that we SAFC fans inhabit
I love your optimism, but this time last season we din't have the injury problems like we do now, nor were we in such a dire financial situation, i fear the worst i re All the very best bonny lad.
Not seen the game and by the sound of this thread I may not watch the recording. Before we all head for the lifeboats it might help to remember the disaster against QPR two years ago when we surrendered a home game in similar style. Put this one in the 'could not have been worse" box and move on. I don't think the players will have slept well and Moyes' after match comments about how bad they performed suits me as once they are over that line it is down to them.
