For the first time in three weeks no need to get out of bed before it is light, no mammoth coach journey, getting home at 10pm 11pm or 2 am but a chance to go to the home of football Deepdale. We welcome a faltering Brentford side who have not won a game in four attempts, last time out they were dismantled by Burnley 3-1 at Griffin Park last Friday add to that Tarkowski refused to play as there is a possibility of a move to Burnley, also Judge had been lined up by the Clarets as well and Diagouraga apparently wants to go to Rangers to play under ex Bees manager Mark Warburton so all is a little chaotic with the Bees at the moment. Saying that they are not a bad side with the aforementioned Judge in my view one of the best players in the league. In the game at Griffin Park we outplayed them in the first half before giving an abject performance in the second half(a rarity of a duff performance)
Time to get revenge, Dean Smith will know us well from his time as Walsall gaffer and usually gets his teams playing good football, a tough game.
Squad wise probably similar to the team at Ipswich, no new injury worries that I am aware off, fifteen points to avoid the drop time to get three points closer

NE's problem has been inconsistency during games. Either they start badly and then barn-storm in the second half or the other way round. With the flesh young blood perhaps NE will crack on for the whole game.

In recent time honoured tradition Brentford racked up a 3-1 victory at Deepdale as North End apart from a 15 minute spell in the second half got what they deserved nothing. Too many players off the pace today against a Brentford side who played decent short passing football and made ball retention an art.
The Bees were without Tarkowski again plus Diagouraga and the suspended McCormack so they were possibly understrength although you would never have known it. The first 20 minutes were particularly souless as the pre match pint took its effect the match seemed to be played at an half arsed pace with the Bees dominating possession and North End chasing the ball. Cunningham gave away a free kick on the edge of the box, Bidwell curled a left foot kick towards the far post, it seemed to miss everyone and ended up in the net, it went down as a Cunningham own goal(summed up Greg's afternoon, he had a shocker.
Within a minute the home side were level, the Bees did not deal with a long ball down the middle, failed to clear the ball and Reach eventually fired the ball home. More sterile stuff until the Bees scored just before half time, Cunningham badly misjudged a long ball, Judge controlled the ball advanced into the area before wrong footing defenders and keeper before putting the ball into the corner of the net. The game boiled over just on half time after a wound up Garner seemed to clatter a Brentford player following a foul on him. After the initial handbags the referee, fourth official and linesman discussed the fracas before giving Garner a yellow could quite easily have been red.
Bidwell should have increased the lead but his tame shot was easily saved by Johnstone, then North End had a great chance to level Garner seemed to foul Dean, no whistle he squared the ball to Doyle in acres of space, he didn't hit the target, criminal miss. Vibe headed over for the Bees after more Brentford carnage down the flanks.
North End made changes went to 442 and for 15 minutes looked the decent side we can be, Huntington headed against the bar, Button tipped over another effort, then from a Johnson shot, the Bees keeper pulled off a stunning one handed save tipping the ball onto the bar. Huntington then headed across the face of the goal for Garner to score unfortunately the flag had gone up for offside and with it went North End's chances. Another break down the wing ended with Swift's shot going in via a deflection and all that was left was the walk back to the car in the usual Saturday rain. Better side won next up three easy points for us at Derby!!!!!!!!!!!

    Preston boss Simon Grayson:

"Ultimately in the first half they were better with the ball, and if you allow a team like Brentford room, they're going to punish you.

"We're disappointed with the goals we gave away, but ultimately we didn't cause them enough problems in the first half.

"In the second half we laid siege to the Brentford goal, and in the big moments of the game we didn't take our opportunities. We've got to be more ruthless.

"Even with the run we've been on we're not going to shout about what we can achieve - we'll just work hard to see what results we can get."

    Brentford head coach Dean Smith:

"First half I thought we were really good and deserved to go in front.

"Overall I'm really pleased with the performance, it's just a 10-minute period where we just need to get a bit better in showing composure.

"The players have been in the Championship for a long time and they know there are physical challenges you have to meet.

"I thought Garner had swung his arm and caught Sam Saunders. If he [the referee] has seen that then it's a red card, so I find it strange that it becomes a yellow card given the nature of the incident."

Really need a decent striker to partner Garner. Doyle is a Cardiff reject.
