The Japanese really do have some strange TV shows. I remember some odd ball stuff from the 80's and 90's....

What strange shows do you remember most fondly?

I remember one in which they locked a man in a dark hotel room for 48 hrs with a goat

They didn't get along very well

I could understand it if it was a ghost but not a goat, in my experience they're up for it.

Takeshi's Castle was a good laugh but mostly for Craig Charles' commentary, and I remember in the 80s seeing a load of weird Japanese stuff on Clive James' show. We thought it was absurd at the time, yet 30 years later the same sort of stuff was the basis for the UK show 'I'm a Celebrity'.

Loved that programme too. And I think the 80s weird stuff was called 'endurance'? I remember one episode where they had to drink loads of water, then stand out in the snow and ice in just pants and not wee thrmselves. Last man standing won. Nutters.
