What do people think the criteria is to be a big club. Big stadium Sucessful history Large fan base Global appeal Recent success Famous players past and present To be hated The only clubs at the moment to tick all of the above The 2 manchester clubs and arsenal. I think to be honest we just about tick 2 of the above....
Think a good test is to goto a country like America and see how many european teams they can name. A true "big club" should have global appeal, like your Man United's, Barcelonas, Madrids etc. Though in reality, theirs no way to measure/rank it properly.
The only clubs in England that I see as being truly 'big' are Liverpool and United. Arsenal are the closest followed by Chelsea and Man City, followed by Spurs, West Ham and Everton and then it's a bit of a free for all with us probably being the best of the rest.
Manchester United are the biggest English club ... like them or loath them ... if Liverpool are second (and they likely are) they are still way behind United ... Arsenal are probably third ... but football is ever evolving ... in 50 years time, Man City might have eclipsed United's number of titles ...who knows ... when I was growing up first Leeds and then Liverpool seemed as if they were going to be at the top forever ... it was very difficult during Liverpool's glory days to think that United would get a manager that would go on to eclipse Matt Busby's acheivements and beat Liverpool's number of title wins ...
