This pole is now active Sorry if your favorite aint on here I had alot of players in my head but there was only space for 9 and others.
Well HOADIE, I don't know all of the list, but having seen Pompey play Gills in times past and other games they played on TV, no player tried harder than Hess, so I vote for him!
Yeah that is what I went with, What a legend, Loved him as a player, Love him as a manager, Everyone has to love the man, He is great, What a quality man to have as our manager. He always gave 100% and that is what was great about him. Many of the other players on that list were great aswell like Nicky Southall he is a great man, I know him personally, He isn't the most intelliegent but he was a great footballer, Back for his 5th spell at the club, Still registered as a player, Think he will never play again, Great first team coach.
I voted for Ron Hillyard, yeah I know NOT the best player of all time but for nostalgia reasons, it's not often you hear his name mentioned these days. In my younger days, I can remember sharing a fair bit of banter when standing behind the goal with him. Yes in the days of standing.
LOL yeah mate the days of standing, Some good days they must of been, I've never had to stand at a match since Im only 21 and I went to my first game like 14 years ago and I didn't have to stand up. Hillyard was brilliant for us and he is worthy of the vote
Best days ever standing, when I first went to the Gills I can remember you used to be able to walk round the back of the Gordon Road Stand, which was great at half time to swap from the Town End to the Rainham End. Needless to say it caused a few problems with the away fans, hence that route saw the end of it's days.
Yeah mate heard alot about that,It is brilliant for me as I live 3 minutes away from the groud and can see the gordan road end out my window as I live on Livingstone
I found this a hard one to answer, ended up going with Yeo as it brought back memories of my younger days, and the one and only time Gills won a league championship.
grumpy - you've lost me with that one? My first game ever was a friendly at home against West Ham, the first league season I went to the Gills was following that in 1974-75, this was the season after we were second behind the Posh in the old division four, where if I'm correct Yeo was top scorer. So re your comment about winning a league championship?
I think it was my fault because at first I put 1971 but I have changed it now because I remember now that it was 64 I think when we last actually won the League Was Yeo the top scorer that season.
Yeah you just cleared that one up in regards to the championship bit, it was the 1970's bit that completely threw me! Even my memories don't go back as far has grumpy's <respect>. My time started with the Gills, just has Yeo's was finishing. Good thread Hoadie, i'll rep you on this one
For length of service and the number of goals.........and he was devastating in the box!!!! Brian Yeo. For a phenomenal strike rate and blistering goal scorer.........were any of his goals average???? Bob (Legend) Taylor.
OK. I seem to have confused some of the younger boardsters (cough, cough) I have been supporting the Gills since 1957 and seen only one league championship win (we've never had another) The season was 63/64 and that was when Yeo started. He went on to score 136 league goals (149 all competions) for Gillingham which is still a club record, he also jointly holds the record (with Ernie Morgan) for 31 goals in a season
