Todays BBC Gossip suggests we might be a little behind the other clubs in our transfer activity. Loads of detail for the other clubs - us not so much: http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/gossip Man City Manchester City have agreed a 57m euros (£51.15m) fee for Monaco's 23-year-old left-back Benjamin Mendy. (L'Equipe - in French) Man Utd Manchester United have made a £35m bid for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, 28, and have been told they can have him for £50m. (Daily Mirror) Chelsea Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is interested in Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, 32, to act as back-up to new signing Alvaro Morata - but Swansea want £30m Us Newcastle are looking for a new striker, says manager Rafael Benitez. (Newcastle Chronicle) So are we keeping our cards close to our chest or are we not at the races at all?
Looks like Chambers is going to Palace as well. We should have been all over that. Very underwhelmed by our transfer window atm.
I would have liked to seen us in for him as well. Young player with a great background (Southampton and Arsenal) who will improve with age. I know we may not have got him but at least show some interest.
We may have done that and been told by his Agents that he wasn't interested and not pursued it further. NUFC are being criticised unfairly IMO as no-one knows what we are doing but as the papers aren't saying we have been actively pursuing someone then it's assumed we haven't. Not saying we have but can't see how the Club can be criticised for not doing something when we don't know if they have or they haven't.
This. Everything to me suggests Benitez has control of the transfers. He's either asking for stupid wages (palace the only ones outside top 7 that will happily pay) or wants to stay in London like a bohemian dick. After we got turned down because of the night life, literally anything a a possibility
Chambers would be great signing for someone. Him, Taylor, Hughes, Chabolah, Ake all look good young English players who have or will move this summer. I think all would have been really useful additions along with Murphy. Chabolah and Hughes would have been good comp for Hayden and Shelvey. Chambers, Taylor and Ake could have given us all the defensive options we need. Murphy is gouf comp for the wide areas with Atsu. Then we could have spent big on a no.9 and no.10
Down to the dug out to take his seat and preside over a wonderful return to the EPL. Just thought I'll finish the sentence for you
How many don't though? The only times we generally hear reliable info from teams is when they're signing players as opposed to when they're not. No potential player coming here wants to hear the myriad of reasons players aren't coming to us otherwise they might bloody pick one of them aswell
Personally, I'd prefer the club to get on with signings quietly then announce them once complete That way we don't end up with the sort of fannying about we had with the whole Abraham saga
But that way we could get to the end of the window before you realise we are not signing anyone. I would think any manager would prefer all signings in by time pre-season starts so they can work on formations and tactics.
