A bit from Issac Hayden in the Times discussing playing here and support. Some possible bating of the Sunderland fans near the bottom. Probably get the desired reaction from the mongrels down the road, but in reality its probably just stating facts.

Speaking in an interview with the Times’ Henry Winter, Hayden said: “It’s a special feeling here.

“Arsenal are a massive club, but it doesn’t have the same aura as Newcastle.

“I pulled on the red-and-white Arsenal shirt — maybe not enough times to fully appreciate it — but it’s almost like a sense of pure passion from the Geordies, compared to the Arsenal fans.

“Don’t get me wrong, Arsenal fans have had a tough time as well and been great, but I didn’t get the feeling when you walk out at the Emirates as when I walk out at St James.

    “It’s a different vibe.

“At Newcastle, it’s like I’m representing the guy in the stands.
“When we lose, I know 50,000 people are not going to have a good weekend.

“They make me feel like I’m representing them directly on the pitch.

“I didn’t get that at Arsenal or Hull.”

"I don’t think there can be a question that they are the best fans in the country,” Hayden told The Times. “We have an average attendance of 51,000 for a second division team. I don’t believe anybody who gets relegated would get that.

“Look at Sunderland — would they have that loyalty? Even in the Premier League, when you watched [them at the Stadium of Light] there were red seats everywhere.

“I don’t think they will get 40,000 in the Championship when they don’t fill the stadium in the Premier League.”

Given they've already had 5 or 6 crowds under 40k this season and their ave is about 41k it's not a bad prediction

Maybe someone could have a bet on it for next season... <whistle>

You could consider calling it an insurance bet.

Mackems going mental about it on their board. Sad fact is that the majority of their fans are a fickle bunch. They struggle to get 35,000 next season.

The 39/40k they have had this season have been reduced to 25,000 after 60 mins.

We went down last year and sold out the last game and stayed to the final whistle signing our hearts out.

Fast forward to this year and their last home game and half of them couldn't be even arsed turning up. The media had a field day about them being AWOL. It was shocking to see.

    Well,

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...
It is a period of civil war. Rebel
    spaceships, striking from a hidden
base, have won their first victory
    against the evil Galactic Empire.

During the battle, Rebel spies managed
to steal secret plans to the Empire's
ultimate weapon, the Insurance Bet, an
    Evil, deceptive plan with enough
power to destroy an entire planet.

Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents,
Princess Leia races home aboard her
starship, custodian of the stolen plans
that can save her people and restore
    Honourable betting to the galaxy....

Well if they are in meltdown about this, how about their manager agreeing to put the ball out in the 26th min to let the opposing captain leave the pitch in a guard of honour? What the **** is this soap opera? Jesus wept football has lost the ****ing plot. If Conte had asked me to do that I'd have said "er no mate you can **** off, we will be doing our best to smash you today"

Moyes is the gift that just keeps on giving. Surely he can't have agreed to this is a professional game of football? What about the betting side of things too - I wonder if any bookies received a massive bet on such an event. All I know is that football is a massive wet fart these days. No surprise if that useless Scottish sackless wonder has partaken in such contrived nonsense.

There are surely more than 5 or 6 games under 40k, but because they report ticket sales (including season tickets) rather than actual people in the stadium the attendances are often over-reported. But, if they have a season like ours they will probably fill it up soon enough though. It's fair to say they have more fair-weather fans than us as most clubs do.
