Don't think he was poor tonight. Bear in mind he hasn't had a real run of games where he has started. First half I thought he was decent, not great, but decent. Second half he didn't really do much good or bad.

Think it's hard to make decisions on players where they aren't given a decent number of games in a row where they are starting.

Would prefer Townsend though in any event.

 

Sorry, but you weren't watching very closely mate. So many misplaced passes. Not getting at the defenders or taking up good positions. Overhit crosses. Letting the guy he was marking just dribble it and pass it where he wanted. And he has a stamina problem as he seems to fade badly in matches.

I have to say it was a bad move switching Ritchie and Atsu from the flank they started on part way through the game. Fine to try it but it didn't work very well and Rafa should have switched them back as they were better towards the start of the match.

Also, he's played in 26 matches so it's not like he hasn't figured much. I think he's had plenty of game time to make an impression, and while there's been some good stuff it's too sporadic and it's interlaced with too much poor football.

 

He's young and good on the ball and can play possession football! I'd keep him he's useful at times and has helped more than he hasn't.

Focus on the real crap like colback, dummet , mitrovic and I'm sorry but gouffran who's never going to cut it in the premiership

And by "keep him" you mean pay what Chelsea want for him? I'm not sure how much that is going to be but I reckon we could use the money better. He'll be truly awful in the Premier League.

 

I have to say I don't really think he is good enough for the premiership. You can't have players just showing glimpses. We need someone who is consistent. Ritchie sets the standard and that's for a mid table side for me.

 

Interesting point here. Ritchie our best player, yet "should" be more or less the minimum standard!

 

I'm not sure. I've said all along he's a maybe. I'm just not convinced. Not convinced by Townsend either. Both strong runners who don't deliver consistently- Townsend a bit more but then that could just be through having mire opportunity. Ritchie is streets ahead - carrying us at the moment. While the rest bumble around and the manager try's not to lose, this guy takes the game by the scruff of the neck and refuses to accept anything but promotion. A natural technical footballer. Howe schooled him well.

I look round and there are better options than Atsu and Townsend. I've said before the likes of Markovic at Hull on loan would be a much better option and suited to Benitez.

 

Yes but it's one game and he's had one or two of them but he's got more potential than any of our young players including Perez I'm my opinion
