Princess we have heard alot recently about jockeys being able to defer suspensions if there is a Grade 1 race taking place on the day they are due to sit out. Do you know the small print associated with this rule? I was thinking, if a jockey received a 4 day ban (lets say for hitting his horse 9 times with the whip) and that ban ran from March 13th - 16th, would he be able to defer it to start March 17th because there is a grade 1 race on each day of the festival? Or can he only defer for 1 day max? There seems to be much "angst" that many top jockeys will take a week off in the next couple of weeks to avoid picking up a ban which would mean them missing some (or all) of the festival. But this deferral rule seems to me to indicate they have nothing to worry about due to those 4 days being "Grade 1 racedays". Or am I missing something?
Odddog, it took some searching out but I think I have the answer! From what I can understand on the BHA's Rules of Racing website, the Group/Grade1 defferal rule only applies if the ban is of 4 days or less: "8.1 This Paragraph applies where a riding suspension imposed on a Professional Rider is of four days or less. 8.2 The period of suspension will not be effective on any days when pattern races divided into Group 1 or Grade 1 are programmed to take place in Great Britain, as applicable to the type of licence held by the Professional Rider, unless he makes a request under Paragraph 12 of this Schedule that the provisions of this Paragraph should not apply to him." The reffered to Paragraph 12: "12.1 Where any Rider who is suspended for four days or less wishes to make an application for the provisions set out in Paragraphs 8.2 and 11.2 not to apply to him, he must submit an application to the Authority's Disciplinary Department 12.1.1 not less than three days before the day on which the suspension is due to commence, or 12.1.2 if the last day for making an application falls on a day on which the office is closed, by 5 p.m. on the last day that the Authority's Office is open for business."
Many thanks Princess - so "one over the eight" shouldn't be an issue unless it's well over the 8 or a repeat offence
Princess thanks for that bonus. Interesting to see the Royal Studs have bought Memory from Highclere, and the other new mare is Key Point who looks like a 'purchase' from the Aga Khan. As you've almost filled in my records (I do buy RoM myself every 2nd year honest) can you have a look at these if you have time Produce in 2011 + susequent mating Spinning Top Abbey Strand Celtic Cross Purple Heather Daralbayda Film Script Rainbow's Edge Phantom Gold Fleeting Memory Hypotenuse Trianon Bonnie Doon Lost in Wonder (all above should be Royal Studs) Yawl Brindisi Flag Ship (all should be M H Dixon) La Persiana Gravitation Nirvana (all Avington Stud) + mating in 2011 for Golden Stream It's interesting to see how many of what I'd call the traditional studs are patronising Oasis Dream and Dansili. Trying to get some more speed in their stock I suppose.
Here you go: Spinning Top - colt by Royal Applause. Visited Kyllachy Abbey Strand – no recorded foals/coverings since 2007 Celtic Cross – filly by Kheleyf. Princess, good morning. Re. stallions, is it unusual that a sire produces his best jumps progeny in the latter stages of his life? I notice that Cadoudal sired his best offspring -both Big Bucks and Le Beau Bai in 2003 and Long Run in 2005- prior to his death in 2007. Also, Dom Alco sired arguably two of his best offspring -Grands Crus and Al Ferof in the latter stages at stud -within days of each other in 2005. Changing the tack, I see that German sire Network is starting to make a name for himself as a jumps sire- with Rubi Ball, Rubi Light, and Sprinter Sacre. Network's sire, Monsun, seems to be a great source of successful Flat offspring. Any observations about Network- or Monsun? Kind regards, Tam.
The problem with jumps sires is that it takes so long for their progeny to get to the track that, by the time people have started to notice them, they are often in the latter stages of their careers, or dead! The stallions you mention never covered very large books of mares, so arguably the quality of mares sent to them was pretty low, hence taking time to get a good horse. I've no observations about NETWORK at this stage, but MONSUN is without doubt a great influence. His horses are big, tough and very sound - ideal attributes for jumping! Watch out for his other sons in the NH sphere in the coming years: GENTLEWAVE, GETWAWY, MANDURO, SCHIAPARELLI and SHIROCCO.
Thanks Princess... A bit of an amateurish question one I could probably find this year but who's projency will we see on the race track this year? Rgds, Cats
