Watford boss Walter Mazzarri: "I had to take some decisions on the game and formation after the Millwall defeat and we had to play differently which showed with our performance today. "We played a great first half and the condition of some of the players is returning. In the second half, Arsenal managed to press us but in general it was very well done. "Against a great team in their stadium, you cannot allow them to play too much of the ball and you have to press them. We did that very well but you cannot do it for 90 minutes. That was our tactic. "I want to wish Odion Ighalo good luck because he is a great player and professional. I am very happy with our January signings in M'Baye Niang and Mauro Zarate and I have to do the best with that."
I couldn't be bothered to come into work early today as I didn't want to be depressed. Wish I had now as I missed the first half. Oh such little faith!
Here's a thought. Is that our greatest ever Premier League win? Liverpool away with Mooney maybe? What other great away wins have there been in the PL?
Neither of which were away wins.. The only other notable ones I can think of are both at West Ham - 4-2 and 1-0
Glad you got it all out of the way! I was at my French class forgot about it completely.. Was just going to turn the TV off.. And then saw it was on! .. Great win.. And so good to see our prem team turned up tonight. Three invaluable points. COYH!!
On the train travelling home from the match.... pre match was to hope for the best and expect the worst. 1-0 was ecstasy. 2-0 was delirium. HT talk was "we'll take the draw..." 2-1 was inevitable. But unlike the 1/4 final it was a resolute display not hanging on "tickled the bar"? LOL absolutely smashed it. Couldda been 3-1. Just superb!
I wonder if Steve Morison's comments were Walter's team talk.... First half simply fantastic - sure, Arsenal weren't great but we have to take some credit for that! Second half very nervy - I do hate when we sit back and invite pressure!
Arsenal were unlucky. How can they lose to a team that only played football for 20 minutes? I like Arsene Wenger when I see him on French TV speaking with an English influenced accent, but if that is what he thought then I think he has lost something. 45 minutes maybe, but our second half wasn't so shabby as a defensive display.
Two of my Arsenal work colleagues were there last night "Men against Boy" was their verdict "We were a shambles in the first half and deserved to be two or three goal down, unlucky in the second half because we couldn't break you down and draw level, as for the penalty, made no difference as we wouldn't has scored against Gomes" They are now thinking of removing the middle "o" from the "Gooners" nickname
Missed the match, watched the highlights first thing on Wed just to get the day off badly and I wondered if I had actually woken up! Absolutely brilliant! Bottle it up and let it out every match.
