I can see Lincoln scoring first, fans arms aloft singing that dambuster song. After that Arsenal will show Lincoln the gulf between the two sides and stroll into the semi finals. Maybe..
Google and Wikipedia are marvellous things, aren't they? From Lincoln, Hell and Halifax... Talking about football teams, they had one 20 years before Hull. Not behind the curve with not one but two rugby clubs but no football club. They had one football club and no rugby clubs. A sign of a more advanced, civilised place in my opinion.
Wot sauce, Castro. I did all that from memory. An' it was Water Carrier for Mesopotamia not Water Tank; Tank became the shorthand code during the early Mk1 development.
I played for Lindum (Lincoln) RFC and it was pretty civilised there. Good club that looked after the players, visiting teams and spectators. Less so on the High Street back in the 90s, as just before we played the Imps. I left my then flat with my 11 year old son and as I went off to get our scarves from the car, a bunch of our 'fans' moved towards him thinking he was local and on his own threatening to 'beat the ****' out of him. Yes, that's civilised. I managed to get my hands on one of them in the ground.
I'm going to deliver some shocking news to you. The Hull Football Club was founded in 1865 and played Association rules, 11 a side and no handling the ball. Then on 15th October 1870 they decided to adopt Rugby rules as they had too few opponents. FACT and a half, if I may say so.
Is that Hull the football club formed by ex rugby union players from York? Which rules did they play under? So take away the 5 years you mention and Lincoln City still have a 15 year longer existence than Hull City. And no rugby league clubs at any time.
Indeed. The RFU was formed in 1871, so they were extremely prescient to be 'ex rugby union players' in 1865. Perhaps they travelled to away games in a Tardis?
The first rules were drawn up at rugby school in 1845. Hull FC was formed with a nucleus of pupils who had played at school in. York.
They were formed by a group of ex public school boys who had attended Cheltenham, Rugby, Marlborough and St. Peters (which was in York). As previously stated they played 11 a side 'no handling' Association rules, but only started playing the handball game in 1870 due to a lack of Association opponents.
Saturday 2nd Feb 1867 Ground: Rifle Barracks, Londesbrough St, Hull Hull: E. Waltham (capt), JF Waltham, H.E. Cator, R.J. Wade, B. Lambert, Hutchinson, F.Galloway, J, McCormick, H.Ayre, A. Ayre, A.Spratt. Note 11 players. Hull beat Lincoln 2-0 . Goals by Mr Hutchinson and a goal 'was obtained by the Lincoln side kicking the ball through their own goal, which of course the Hull players claimed', GERREM ONSIDE, as they say.
Bit of a love in with our players on the BBC, Alex Bruce on BBC MOTD extra, and Michael Dawson on the Spurs V Millwall game.
Spurs have removed all the Tottenham Hotspur logo boards in the away end, to stop Millwall throwing them at the home fans... please log in to view this image
