Did you ever go in Everton's boys(monkey cage)pen? Went in there for a derby game, **** me they were hanging upside down from wire ceiling, I know our boys pen was like Colditz but it was like the Ritz compared to EFC's.
Don't think I did. The only full games I went to were with me dad - the rest, like I said, were just going in when the gates were opened, to run about and help ruin their pitch. I went in ours often enough, could hardly see anything.
Me and a few mates used to sometimes spend our boys pen entrance fee on chips/sweets etc and wait until the Kop gates were opened at three quarter time and nip in the Kemlyn Road entrance, up the few steps to the right, past the cafe and then onto the little parapet thingy next to the Kemlyn Rd stand. Surprisingly enough the game could be heading for a draw but we got in at the right time for the best moments and goals of a game. Happy Days.
My memory is that the Boys' Pen was ****e. Couldn't see anything, and there was always some knobend trying to start a fight.
Yeah, there was a gang of local kids giving it the billy big bollocks, telling others were they could and couldn't stand and using the old "d'you wanna go" threat, we used to just stick together, never hit anyone or got hit tbh, and as I remember the view was okay.....if you claimed the bars about 6 feet and managed to hang on to them.
1965 is only 52 years ago so you ould lads were at least 18 when it happened in RHC's case he was 24. you have to rememebr more than this like... were you all pished.
I remember '73, when they came back with the UEFA and the title. I went to school in town and went straight there with my mates (including several Blues, I must add) and got a great spec. Got home about 9pm (walked all the way down Prescott Drive and through Old Swan) and got slight gip for not telling my mum where I was going, but it wasn't like nowadays when search parties would have been sent out. The one a few years later in '77 when Big Ears came back for the first time was bigger again, and probably even bigger then 2005. That's when Terry mac pissed on the nurses and Crazy Horse upset the Blues with his song. After that, my Blue mates and family never did go and see them again, though I did go with my then girlfriend to St George's Hall when they brought back the Cup in '84. Abe Simpson.
I was 6, which I why I went with my Dad. Unlike when I was 5 and accidentally "met" the Beatles due to my 8 yr old sister taking me to town to see them with her older mates and losing me in the crowd!
Not exactly, though I'm not saying any more. Not that I'm precious about it, but I quite like the age-related banter and don't want to spoil it. It's funny seeing how old people think you are from the things you say.
