We were planning to go as never been to Deauville races. Amanda has been asked to do a concert on the Saturday so we will have to miss the 1000Gns but expect to go on the Sunday for the 2000 Gns.

If anyone here is going let me know and we can have a drink.

When France Galop announced that they were rearranging the first two French Classics, I looked into going for the weekend. Up until this year the Poulains (2000 Guineas) and Pouliches (1000 Guineas) had always been run on the same day and the Prix Saint-Alary had been on the Monday (normally a religious holiday in France). This year the Poulains and the Saint-Alary share the Sunday card with the Pouliches on Saturday.

The first fly in the ointment was that the Saturday card is an evening meeting, starting in the middle of the afternoon. That scuppered any prospect of going to the races and then getting the 6pm-ish train to Paris (or somewhere not too local) – meaning expensive Deauville hotels as the only option.

The second fly in the ointment for the Sunday card is the same one that stopped me going last year – no way to get to Ouistreham for a ferry back to Blighty other than a seriously expensive taxi from Deauville (about 30 miles) as there is no late train to Caen (9 miles from Ouistreham and no bus on Sundays).

So sorry, I will have to decline your invite for a drink... :emoticon-0101-sadsm

It would be for me if it weren't for the large body of water in the way.

Where in France are you Ron?
