When SB brought them over there always seemed to be pictures posted. Is Marco insisting on a por trás de portas? Are they over there on a corporate jolly& bonding exercise or is it a serious training camp ( you know like the last one over there which left Lenihan crocked and not fit for purpose).
Marco's keeping the lads out of the spotlight and concentrating on the job in hand. I like his style.
I don't know that MS does days off or holidays does he?! I imagine they're being flogged, particularly in the first few days so they have time to recover.
MS definitely does days off, everyone's - not just on here but in the media too - overreacting to Andy's comment about no days off which was during the period where we had games every 3-4 days. Now that we have bigger gaps between games no doubt the players will have days off. If MS is as obsessed with Sports Science as he apparently is, he's smart enough to know you can't work players into the ground and not give them time to recover. There was a comment after the win against Liverpool (I think) from MS or someone that they were going to have a day or two off.
Not just the sport science side of it, there's the morale side of it that managers should all understand. I don't care how much you're being paid, if your gaffer is expecting you to work 7 days a week and you've got young kids you can only go so long before the not being able to have a family day is going to affect you. People can say it's not like they're putting in a 16 hour shift, but you can't do simple things like take your kid down the park after their tea in the middle of winter. People will also suggest military etc don't get to, but they're in a job where it's not possible, it's not because the boss has said they can't do it through choice. It's that decision that would cause the issues.
Absolutely. Robertson was talking about training sessions during that run of games, and I'm not surprised they didn't really get days off, but that's not the norm and people are assuming it is because of that one comment.
In fairness, I meant that tongue in cheek, no doubt they'll work hard in Portugal to start with and get the hard yards in, then towards the end of the camp it will be more looking at strategy, positioning, tactics etc.
As I said though it's not just you, it seems everyone saw Robertson's comment and is using it as gospel of what goes on.
I took it more that it seems like they don't get a day off and that they have less days off because they spend more time in the classroom watching videos of themselves and the opposition
It seems though, from listening to players, that they would be happy to train with him all day everyday.
One of my nurses here says he's 'bonny', so I'd bet a few Hull lasses would like to train with him, too...
I'm sure we will see more difference set piece variations in the coming weeks. Under Bruce and Phelan I always thought we didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
Talking to a waiter here in Lisbon and mentioned MS - he immediately said he was now watching City, we were robbed by Arsenal and Leicester would go down. He said he was the best coach in Portugal ever. Super Bocking very acceptable btw.
I suspect they wouldn't be the only ones happy to train with him TC! I wonder with the lack of photos on this trip he has seen Bruce's photos and maybe thought the competition was too hot for swimwear pics!!
