We all know the talented Senor Alonso is the most complete driver on the grid. A complete all rounder with overtaking, speed, defending, crying, winning.

But it struck me that whilst he's great at all of these he's not the best at any.

    Vettel is the fastest
    Hamilton is the best overtaker
Petrov is the best at defending
    Button is the most consistent
Schumacher is the best at getting his team mate to move over

Which skill do think is the most important to master so he's not slightly above average?

I voted overtaking, nothing better than to watch the fear factor play its hand, some are immune to it like Petrov, and Alonso should have passed him although all credit to Petrov he was never going to make it easy and why should he, Alonso should have taken more chances but his overriding concern was to finish the race.. still fingers crossed we get a season like last one which was a corker imho.

Alonso is probably the 2nd best overtaker in f1 currently I think It would be nice to see some quality overtakes like he used to do with Renault next year. The Ferrari seemed to struggle to be able to overtake last year but Fernando always got right up behind his competitors so we know it can happen

But with the adjustable rear wing is defending not more important?

    Amcodotg

You missed an important quality amcodotg.......the ability to make things happen in the pits from his own cockpit
The best drivers have this, to be able to have your team running around behind the scenes pulling strings to help you win
F1 is a team sport amcodotg and the best drivers command the whole team

As we saw in Abu dhabi this is the only area alonso needs to improve. It was sad watching him behind petrov waiting for the magic to work

I would go along with that el-bando.. kubica and hamilton are imho born overtakers, they just seem to enjoy it more and willing to take the plunge even if it does goes tits up.. one thing i do rermeber though was 2008 and how lewis would cut across the other drivers in his vastly superior mclaren.. that was a bit naughty but hey ho tis racing.

I think both Alonso's consistency and cool head under pressure are his strongest assets and two of the most important assets a racing driver can have!

Of course it's racing. Rossi and Stoner and a very good scrap at Laguna Seca 2008, and Stoner was crying because of some of the amazing moves Rossi pulled on him.Ever since karting hamilton has been the best/2nd best overtaker in the disciplines that he'[d been in.. He must have done the most overtakes in 2010, so really doesn't that mean Alonso is very poor at overtaking compared to the others? and Kobayashi is very good at overtaking and defending as well

No I didn't blackhawk. If you read the article properly you'll see this is about skills he's not better than anybody at. The article is immediately under the poll.

I clearly stated he's the best at crying. Which I am grouping with hissyfits.

Ofcourse Alonso is best at crying, he is most complete driver ever ever

And been Spanish the matador Alonso is used to deal with English upstarts just like Drake
He is lucky though that he has no Scottish drivers to contend with

He actually is, google it, he lives in Livingston, i think, which IS in Scotland. If your scottish then i'm bernie eccelston

And Fred, Hamilton had many overtakes at China and Malaysia, them alone are more than Alonso
