Sorry, can't embed Sky videos... http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/10578867/alex-bruce-dad-didnt-want-to-go?
I heard that he wanted another job in May (presumably the Newcastle job?) and, when he didn't get it, they had to plead with him to stay on. Now, whether he wanted to leave because the relationship had broken down, I don't know but I do have it on authority that he did want to leave.
Toward the end of the season Bruce looked absolutely knackered. I bet his blood pressure was off the chart. It's possible that if Assem hadn't fallen ill leaving Bruce to deal with Ehab, he might still be our manager. As it is, I reckon it wasn't a bad time for there to be a change. Just knowing that we won't play defensively for the last half hour of every match comes as a relief. Let's hope the new owners aren't idiots.
None of this story is a surprise in any way He's just ended up sick of the mess and walked for non football reasons. Irrespective of hindsight, it was unfortunate and a sad end to a distinguished period.
You are quite right, but don't forget he looked even worse when City were relegated. Everyone can say, yeah, he got City back up again, but in what fashion and in what state was the squad when he walked? In what state was Steve Bruce when he walked? He really should have gone when City were relegated. I like the bloke but there is no point pursuing a career to failure and ill-health, and walking from City said "enough is enough". I think he eventually realized his limitations, and that is wise.
http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ime-objective-for-proud-hull-boss-steve-bruce went public to get away from Hull City - if I get it, 'happy days' - well you didn't and all I can say we've now got Mike Phelan, happy days
Amazed that anyone could see it any differently tbh. Trust the national media to by and large get it wrong the ****s.
Be careful what you wish for. Great to hear Alex Bruce refer to Hull City players as 'our lads' in MOTD2 a minute or two ago. So many players/pundits seem to want to pretend they have never been on our books.
Well he still is on our books for a few more weeks - he can't even get into the Wigan team which is no surprise to me at all - the only surprise is that anyone took him - I assume there was no loan fee and we agreed to pay all his wages
He's coming back from injury and has now been named on the bench, there's unlikely to have been a loan fee, but we won't be paying most of his wages.
He was signed 6 weeks ago - on the bench once - do you really think they signed him and agreed to pay his Premier league wages - I don't
