Its not even like they do a full days work, but they'd still get a few weeks (2/3?) in between. Pre season starts too early these days anyway, its just about money tours these days.

So if your employer told you that you only got 3 weeks holiday per year and could only take it in July you would be happy?

If I were being paid 50-100+ K per week, I think I'd live with it. Anyway isn't that the case already, every 2 years (for Europe) there is a major tournament taking up all of June and half of July, so footballers are already only getting those 2-3 weeks in July. Plus its only if you are an international player

So basically the top teams players get ****ed.
Internationals are a bit **** if you don't win anything but, the system as it stands is about as fair as it can be.

The case here is odd in that the player was officially injured when the squad was finalised and not in it so this tournament is happening while he recovers adlnd can play.

    Rather silly.

But hey.. who cares lfc had klavan and lovren who had everything and everybody utd could throw at them tucked squarely in their proverbial pockets.

Its only another 2 weeks off in which time plymouth and swansea and southampton will not even bother coming out of their own halves v lfc.

He will be back by chelsea game even more healed up than he is now

You get holidays. If they "work" all year round, do they then get holiday entitlement?

PS... they currently get a obligatory three week break

Again un charted territory if cameroon go out early as others have returned to their clubs early from acon when teams go out.

The fact is hes not banned as hes got no notification of a ban has he?

If you work 5 days a week then have to have minimum of 28 days (including bank holidays). However depends how their contracts are worded I guess as don't suspect they have set hours and working days so gets bit tricky around working out their statutory holiday entitlement.

They could in theory be be classed as part time only working X hits a day for 4 days a week

The fact is pro footballers will be subject to the same eu rules as the rest of us (for now) so will only have a 48 hour working week.

they train every day though so while they only train for 90mins or whatever they are still in there for lunch and breakfast and whatever else so....

the debate needs to circle back to reality do you want year round football or do you want a rest in the middle. every sport even in the Us has a break. everyone needs it including the hard pressed fan who's milked at every turn. Performance simply suffers if you don't have a time to rest and a time to build up a squad for the seaosn coming.

the REALITY is the season ends somewhere about mid to late may and starts july 1 with more training so these players play every week at least once and train most days right through form July 1 to may 21st (fa cup final day) I fail to see how a mere 5 weeks off is curdling some people's breakfast milk over this.

The UK has an opt out on the 48hr week, so that's a moot point.

    https://www.gov.uk/maximum-weekly-working-hours/overview

you can choose to opt out but you have to do it and your emplyer cannot sack you if you choose not to... or you can go to employment tribunal and ruin your career :)

it would be down to the players to individually opt out. however... it would be interesting to add up what would be considered working time for a pro footballer

    for exmaple:

1, training. attend at x time. eat what you are told to

    2. train .Could be any time during day to align with match according to herr klopp (90mins)

    3. eat again

    4. maybe train a second time maybe not. Do rehab. etc etc

Would htey spend 4 hours a day in work?

    5. Travel time. Most businesses will charge for travel time so if a player is playing a game even at home he would be in from 10am until 6pm or later dependsing on game time. If playing away he would have over night trip in there. and so forth and so on.

so would you get even close to 40 hours (even if some of it is merely eating as you are told and being massaged <laugh>)

the fact still remains a typical footballer would get 5/6 weeks off in the summer. max and has to give up every weekend in the rest to the very well rewarding career they have chosen.

Most employers put it straight into the contract of employment at the outset, I doubt footballers ever get close to it anyway, so it's a moot point all round mate.

People that work in schools don't get holidays as such. However, they only work 39wks a year but usually get paid for 44wks to covers holiday pay. Maybe something similar?

(They don't usually get paid during School holidays and the 44wks ate spread equally over twelve months)
