Pagenaud the 2016 Indy champion..not much of a race in the end. Power was never in it really and the clutch issues ended any chance he had around lap 37.

Can't believe it's done already. The season, though not a classic just flew by.

Big shame, but nice to see Seb Bourdais add to his success. Was on the wrong end of some races in his F1 stint. Good to see.

Apparently Bhaji Flew all the way to the UK, Kidnapped Alonso, forced him to drive in indy500 to get all us to watch it.

    well played Bhaji, well played

    Edit:

He's racing for McLaren Honda Andretti!

I think that's awesome. McLaren recognise where they are in F1 so why not get themselves in the US market and seek out some sponsorship.

I don't think this was Mclarens call. Monaco is their best chance for good points all season and they're sending their star driver to America?

I think Alonso asked and they set this up to appease him. Terrified that he'd quit altogether if they said no.

I wonder if Button will accept the drive.

    This needs its own thread!

    Wow, just effing Wow!

So he'd rather risk breaking his legs than drive a McLaren. Says it all!

    HUGE HUGE STORY.

You might as well close mcclaren now cos the only chance they had a points was monaco and the only dirver capable of delivering them just ****ed off to race in a meaningless one off.

I should say for alonso in general. HE goes and does one race. What does that mean in the grand scheme of things

Of course in terms of the indy season the indy 500 is important just as monaco is

but for alonso? its just a nice to have.

For me this is a guy binning off the most glamorous weekend of the F1 calendar and his teams best and only hope of points for the season to go have a jolly

Let's just say he manages to win the race... That would be an absolute career highlight.

I imagine he'll be taking this challenge incredibly seriously and not just treating it as a jolly.

yes but he won't.... guys prep with cars for years and nobody can step in and deliver like that IMO. I have too much respect for the yanks and their backward ways :) to expect alonso to just sit in their tractors and win. :bandit:
