Apparently, Jol's interested in bringing Harry Kewell back to the EPL. I say, why not? I'd take Kewell, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen ... I'd take them all on a pay-for-play basis.
And Jol said he wanted to sign young players? I'd take Kewell, Fowler and Owen in a heartbeat, as long as someone threw in a time machine as part of the deal. Robbie Fowler was absolutely my favourite other-team player for several years (great movement, made goals happen without even being near the ball on occasions), but I think all three of those are busted flushes. Their time has been and gone and they aren't what we need. I know Kewell is popular with the fans in Turkey and was brilliant for Leeds, but his time at Liverpool is a warning bell we would be foolish to ignore.
I think I someone put a gun to my head, Kewell would be the last of the aforementioned players I'd take. I think Michael Owen has a couple years left in his legs (not that he ever uses them), but I wouldn't take any player that prone to injury without a pay-for-play contract. Oft-injured Jonathan Woodgate was recently offered a pay for play deal by Tottenham and turned it down.
" Paper Talk" I sincerely hope so for one who professes to lean towards youth this realy is scraping the barrel. Come on a premiership club with ambition, which we are supposed to be,looking at has beens.
At least if you are going to make statements like that, please put a smiley face next to it, so we know you haven't gone BONKERS.....
Super Brian ... seemed like the joke was obvious. I wouldn't take Kewell in a game of six a side down at the park. Owen's not a bad player, but Fowler's been over the hill for about 6 years. Last I heard, he was playing in CHina or something.
Sorry DR, I completely missed the joke as well. Maybe you should worry at how easily some of us thought you might have meant what you were saying! Fowler would be the most ridiculous signing of the three. It's sad to see the way his career faded. People forget how good he was when he was younger - he reached 100 goals for Liverpool in fewer games than Michael Owen, who most people would probably put ahead of him. Personally I always thought Fowler was the better striker.
Don't forget you have to pass a police check to perform at a children's party and some of the people mentioned in this thread might struggle with that! Pantomimes, however, especially with custard pies, would be very good entertainment.
If we keep signing Unknowns and cheapies, comes Christmas the whole team might be performing in a pantomime.
Unknowns and cheapies is the way forward for a club like us, as long as they are the right unknowns and cheapies. The only way we can get star players is by signing them before they are big established names. How many of us had heard of Steed Malbranque before he came to Fulham? Or Louis Saha? If we wait until someone is a big name, we either can't compete with bigger clubs for wages or we have to wait until they are past their best and end up paying top wages (for us) for someone who is in decline. The alternative to unknowns and cheapies is more AJs, who I seem to recall you aren't a big fan of, roscafre.
Must disagree with you Captain, when we made it into the "prem". MO splashed a lot of cash,V D S ~ Marlet ~AJ. Those 3 what 30mil and that was before the Man C & Chelsea got into the big money act.
