Sorry for the insult Richmond - totally unecessary. It's hard to believe that we were both top division outfits in those days. Hopefully our glory days will be back real soon but it must seem like a distant memory to Oxford. I stand by the corrupt newspaper owner comment however
No worries QPAAAAARH. I think glory days are much closer to a return at Loftus Road than they are for us at the minute but I like to think we're a club finally heading in the right direction now I don't think anyone would disagree with the corrupt newspaper owner comment ;-)
Nice to see my reminiscences have absolved a few guys of their guilt - it's always best to blame it on an ex-spouse! Sorry Rollercoaster if I've caused you some pain by dragging this back up! The memories of that day are why I can't allow myself to get carried away this season, and until the fat lady is singing "QPR are in the Premier League" I'll be keeping my feet firmly on the ground! COYRssss
The strange thing is, it really doesn't seem as long ago as 25 years! Remember it as though it was yesterday. I don't think I've ever felt so deflated after a match, probably because we all went there thinking our name was already on the trophy. Definitely worse than losing the FA cup final replay to Spurs.
I remember going to both semi finals. I think we beat Liverpool 1-0 at home and drew 2-2 away. 3 of us on the directors coach. Usual warm scouse welcome! Coach was bricked on the way out. Mind you, at the time I was bricking it as well! I am SURE that they scored all 4 goals. The final was a nightmare. About 20 of us walked from the Ballot Box at the bottom of Horsenden Hill. We were convinced that we would turn over Oxford easily. If my memory is correct we had stuffed them in the League at their place only weeks before, so the omens were good. How wrong can you be?
Northolt, yeah I was born and raised in Greenford. Lived there until I was about 22. Used to drink in the Ballot and go to Oscars (The Big O) on Fri/Sat nights. In fact Paul Parker, Alan McDonald and a few of the other players from that great side in the early/mid 80s used to go there. Warren Neill lived around the corner after moving from Acton.
Seahoop, no news yet I'm afraid, but am seeing the guy on Sunday, so should know thereafter. Yours if it comes off.
Thats good to know Woodyhoopleson and thanks for trying. I am getting a bit nervous for tomorrow.....have been since Monday's performance. I thought we ran out of ideas and looked a bit tired but i know we will make the finishing line. I will be in the defectors weld as usual on monday before the match.....Really looking forward to that one. come on you rrrrrrrrrrss
