Problem is that when he goes forward, Pogba has to cover which is not where you want him to play - imo you should get a dedicated DM to release Pogba but that unfortunately would mean sacrificing Herrera.

 

No, it wouldn't.

If we got a top drawer DM he would replace Carrick. Herrera would/should still play.

 

You play a 4-2-3-1 with Pogba as on of the 2.

Pogba doesn't work as a AM so if you play a 4-5-1 with a proper DM and Herrera, that would work brilliantly imo but then you'd need a striker like Lukaku or Morata up front who can play as a lone striker.

 

I'll be honest, no idea what actual formation we'll be playing next season. Mourinho seems to be toying with the idea for three centre halves.

I think we're better off 4 3 3 with Pogba and Herrera with a new DM as the three in front of the defence.

It'll all depend on who we buy though. If love us to go 4 4 2 with Martial and Mkhitaryan wither side of Herrera and Pogba. The likes if Mata, Lingard and Young get limited games in that formation though.

We'd need excellent, reliable (both in fitness and quality) centre halves for that.

We'd also need a new striker of course.

 

Mourinho did play a 4-4-2 diamond at Inter - if you get a left back & CB that don't break down all the time and another striker it would work with the players you already have.

Rashford and Griezmann up top with Martial/Lingard/Mhykitarian behind, backed up by Pogba and Herrera would be the stuff of nightmares...

 

Good. Considering Mourinho allegedly never gives young players a chance why would we buy one who is even younger than Martial and Rashford?
