He is part of the squad and played in the group and knockouts so would get a medal - Depay and Schweinstieger would get one too. There is no chance of him playing though which is a big pity as the game is at the ground where the below happened - unless his agent is correct and he is some kind of superhuman genetic freak that can recover in a quarter of the time of normal humans...
Not interested in Griezmann any more Says there's a 6/10 chance he will leave Atletico and a 7/10 chance he will stay. Clearly can't add up. Next.
So, if we activate his release clause - in reality there is no way we can fail to meet his personal terms, so regardless of whether we play in the CL next year, he is almost certain to join us
You can easily afford him and still comply with FFP - if you are also getting rid of your two highest earners in Zlatan and Rooney then you might even be in the black.
Not really - if we aren't playing in the CL next year I think he would be more likely to prefer another move or to stay at Atletico. He has stated he wants to move to win titles, we won't look like credible title winners if we are still piddling about in the EL. The 6/10 chance of joining Utd is probably the chance he gives us of beating Ajax tonight. Don't forget he also said he could see himself playing in Germany next season. EDIT: Also activating his release clause doesn't necessarily guarantee anything, particularly if Atletico demand most of the cash upfront like they are rumoured to be doing. Or just dig their heels in like Liverpool did with Suarez or Bilbao with Herrera.
I got that wrong then - I presumed that if a club met the release fee they could sign the player regardless of the wishes of the selling club and the preferences of the player. I understand that personal terms is quite another thing
I'd guess in the release fee it will specify certain conditions like x% has to be paid up front etc. but as I understood it if you met those conditions the selling club was obliged to notify the player of offer and allow them to discuss terms. Obviously Griezmann's agent will know the offer before Madrid do. It's probably already in place to happen if you win tonight.
The release fee only releases a player from their current contract, it doesn't mean you can force the player to sign a contract for another club. In theory if we meet the terms of the release clause Atletico can't block the move, but it doesn't mean Griezmann can't sign for another club that also meets the clause, or offers a fee Atletico will accept. Also the release clause is often written in a deliberately obfuscating manner to make it harder to trigger. Like Suarez' one which only required Liverpool to negotiate with Arsenal 'in good faith' and Herrera's clause which required Herrera to be the one to make the payment. In the case of Griezmann, it's rumoured that his clause will only activate if we offer at least half the money, rather than over the course of the contract like we are doing for Pogba.
