So you've quoted some of the stats on the basis that they "bode well" for the rest of the season, and some of them for some other reason ? What is the reason for quoting the stats, for example, that Alli has scored 2 goals at home this season, and Sissoko has got 2 assists as a substitute ? What do these demonstrate ?
So, the deal is : - I apologise for saying you "disowned" statistics which you had posted, and which you then argued in support of, and which you then - after someone had pointed out that they were meaningless - said they were someone else's statistics. - you apologise for lecturing me about an old internet adage about communicating with others, when in fact it was you who had failed to follow the adage, and not me ? Is that the gist of what you are suggesting ?
<quote> http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38279335 Some interesting stats that perhaps says more about our "confirmation bias" etc than the cold light of day ... </quote> I assume you read the above before your first reply ?? If yes, then you are asking a rhetorical question.
You are going to apologise for making a statement that is untrue. And I am going to apologise for making a flippant comment about you that applies to me too. Yes ??
If we went along with your suggestion, what would actually happen would be : - I would apologise for being pretty much entirely correct - you would apologise for being extremely rude and condescending whilst in the same breath, making the very mistake that you alleged I had made, when I had not made it. That doesn't seem very meritorious to me. I think i'll just make a note that as well as making rude criticisms, and making them when they are baseless, and making them when you are actually guilty yourself of the criticism you are making, you are incapable of making a simple apology or acknowledging your (gross and compounded) errors.
Moans about the : - performance of Sissoko as a PL sub are harsh, when nobody else in the PL is providing more assists than him to date (I don't have stats for PL subs goals scored + assists) . - general performance of Alli this season may be a bit harsh when at least for home PL games he has scored as many as he did in the whole of last season.
But Sissoko getting 2 assists as a substitute after 17 league games does nothing to demonstrate that he has performed well, and Alli scoring 2 goals at home after 9 home games, does nothing to demonstrate that he has perormed well. 2 goals in 9 games 2 assists in 17 games So what ??
I don't think the man who first three entries in the debate included : - Tbf, most of these 'stats' are completely lame/meaningless. - Hardly world flipping records are they. - i've got another stat to add to the list : * your stats are the worst stats i've ever seen. is really going to claim the moral high ground here on rudeness, do you ??
You think it's rude for someone to disagree with you, when you've posted meaningless statistics, claiming they are of some value, but you dont think it's rude to lecture someone in an attempted extremely condescending manner, when what they have written is accurate, and when you are the one who is making the very mistake you are purporting to lecture the other person about ? That seems very odd. To me your posts have been : - invalid - mistaken - rude - deluded - hypocritical - misleading - deceitful And mine have been - honest - accurate - reasonable Yet you STILL make insinuations of rudeness and having the "moral highground" Your character flaws and mistakes appear deeper and more obvious with your every post.
You think that scoring 2 goals in 9 games demonstrates that a player has been playing well, and that getting 2 assists in 17 games demonstrates that a player has been playing well ? That doesn't indicate a huge amount of footballing knowledge, imo.
So after all this time, you still don't understand what "confirmation bias" is. Given that is the basis of my posting for which you ploughed into, it seems my "count to 10" comment is well justified (in MY opinion) . So you and me are done here on this one. You have the right to a final comment.
Bit you are the one who has demonstrated confirmation bias. Noone else. You have claimed that alli scoring 2 goals in 9 games and sissoko getting 2 assists in 17 games, demomstrates that comtrary to popular opinion, the players have played well. And even when it has been pointed out thst blatantly obviously, those statistics demonstrate no such thing, you have continued to blindly assert that they do. THAT is confirmation bias.
Sissoko can not have played 17 premier matches as he did not join us until after the Liverpool match (so he missed our first 3), wasn't involved in the Chelsea match, and was suspended for 3 matches. Not sure about other matches as I haven't got the stats available for each game but it means at most he has been involved in 10 premier league games.
Does that make the 2 assists as a substitute stat of any significance ? Does it bode well for tottenham for the second half of the season, mor demonstrate that those who have been critical of the player's performances have been guilty of "confirmation bias" ?
According to the match day programme last Wednesday against Hull, Sissoko had featured in 8 PL games and 4 European games, so 12 in total before the Hull game.
