And 7 points before we can celebrate St Arseholes Day. Then again only one point needed from the other 6 games providing we smash the goonz on the 30th. It might work out perfect, St Arseholes day and the NLD on the same day. My liver is not looking forward to it.
Haven't done a recent round of this for a while ... So, 2nd in the PL and 4 pts behind with 6 games to go. FA Cup SFs. Are we happy with this ??
The fixtures now that the FA Cup congestion is over ... Chelsky : Friday 12th May 2017 West Bromwich Albion V Chelsea Monday 15th May 2017 Chelsea V Watford Sunday 21st May 2017 Chelsea V Sunderland Spurs : Sunday 14th May 2017 Tottenham Hotspur V Manchester United Thursday 18th May 2017 Leicester City V Tottenham Hotspur Sunday 21st May 2017 Hull City V Tottenham Hotspur Two games in a row Spurs play after Chelsky. Chelsky play week 36/37 in 4 days, week 36/37/38 in 10 days. Spurs play week 36/37/38 in 8 days, week 37/38 in 4 days. Opinions ??
A bit of historical perspective ... This is the first time since 1987 that Spurs have been in the FA Cup SFs while still having a good chance to win the league title.
Hard lines in the FA Cup, but that is that. No need or time for the boys to feel sorry for themselves when the bigger prize is still on.
Not totally Rainman As things stand and how we should be utilising our strength as a team..i would say i am disappointed about the Semi final defeat...not good enough that we gave it our best...nearly men wont cut it every season. As for the league..im intrigued and up for the challenge..6 games, 4 point deficit, these things change quickly in football. Im looking out to see how we deal with these next 6 games to see if im happy. There is no credit from me in blowing things when so close, no more, too much empty praise and settling for 'we tried' can become the psyche of a club..i dont want us to be that. If we win or lose the title, thats dependent on Chelsea..we have to still fight like we have a chance...lets see how we react.
If the boys assume Chelsky will drop exactly 4 more pts, then that means Spurs will have to win all of their remaining PL games to be PL champions. No other mindset needed now than that.
Agreed. We risk becoming a sexier, tougher version of Arsenal. However, if we win the next 5 games and Chelsea do too, they will have won the league prior to the last game of the season and we will have guaranteed 2nd place, as well as beating our record points tally by 14 points. If that happens, I will be more than happy with a repeat of the Newcastle debacle of last year, as it will hopefully keep Hull Hotspurs up. Either way, we need to keep going until the fat lady paid for by russian petro-dollars starts to sing.
The Palace game is going to be a very big test now, as well as a huge mental marker that the FA Cup SF has been put behind the squad. We shall see ...
It's all in the mind from now on. Chelsea have dropped (a lot of) points this month; Spurs haven't. On paper, the last day fixtures look like comfortable wins for the top 5 teams, but the reality could be very different if there is something riding on the result for both teams. You need to hope Sunderland do a Lazarus impression from now on.
PL (like for like with 2015-16 after 33 games) : Pts = +9 , GF = +5, GA = -8. Still on for 79 pts. First time in the PL that Spurs have got 74 pts.
PL (like for like with 2015-16 after 34 games) : Pts = +11 , GF = +5, GA = -10. Continuing like for like with last season will see a finish on 81 pts. 13 home wins in a row. 9 wins in a row.
I'm beginning to really like this thread. For a while, it was a bit disappointing to be reminded that although we seemed to be doing really well, it was no better than last year. Now, I'm just loving the fact that even if we collapse in the last four games like last year we'll STILL end on 81 points. I've been following Spurs for more than 25 years and I never really thought I'd see this
I was just looking for a more objective and less hyped way to measure progress, and where specifically it might be made. Similarly to scan forward on the fixtures to see where the manager would be seriously tested on squad rotation etc well before the event.
I think we need a few more players to chip in with the occasional goal, too. It seems a bit churlish to say it, as we've scored more than anyone apart from Chelsea, but the goals all come from a few players. Kane, Alli, Son and Eriksen account for 58 of our 71 goals and nobody else has more than 2 in the league. The defence has been outstanding, though. Actually more the defending right through the team, really. We've conceded less than anyone and far less than anyone other than Chelsea and Utd. Arsenal have played one less game and conceded 20 more goals, nearly double our amount. They're much closer to Boro (45) and Burnley (49) on that count than they are to us. Really enjoyed the thread, by the way. Interesting to see how things have related to last season.
Whatever happens in the title race, here are a few micro targets to keep the squad focused : 1. Not to lose against Man Utd (to complete the unbeaten home form) 2. Keep the final GA below 30 3. At least two more clean sheets (which would mean Spurs only conceded goals all season one game in two) 4. Eriksen to end the season with 10+ PL goals, and Dele Alli with 20+ (that would be four/two Spurs players to finish this season with 10+ / 20+ goals respectively) 5. Kane to end the season with the Golden boot again
