I actually think should be a tournament for top 40 and then next 40 etc. So teams like Bulgaria, Ireland, Ecuador etc actually have a chance of winning something.

 

Yet those also rans would walk all over the Asian cup winners or African cup winners 99/100

 

How do you know if they never get to play each other?
Do you realise how many African players are "stars" in European football and the only reason they are here is money.
If African football ever gets a TV deal (Netflix has been mentioned on these boards) then the players just may stay there and improve their leagues.
Europe may have had the best teams so far but it may not always be the case.
To be the best in the world should mean you beat the best in your region then come out on top against the best of all other regions, otherwise you are just the best of the teams you were drawn against, lucky?

Only logic I see going on is you all think European teams are much better than others because you watch them more and have never seen teams outside Europe.

 

Dude the European and South American teams are better, hence why all the WC winners have been from these two regions. One day perhaps an African or Asian team will win (Pele thought it would have happened by now) but that is for the future.

If you read back I am justifying the CONFED cup because it is played between the champions of each federation and not just a bunch of teams who happen to qualify because of reasons.
World cup, You are a country so you qualify
CL, you won your league or did quite well so you qualify

At least the CONFED is a tournament between champions and so should give some indication of who is the best in a format that has an outcome highly dependant on the luck of the draw.

 

Not all champions are equal. Its no surprise Chile and Germany are in the final, they're the best two countries in it and Portugal were the only other team with a hope of making the final.

However as a tournament I have no problem with or its formant of qualification. And acts as a good test run for host and potential future improvements ( ie video referrals). But to claim it should be up there or above the World Cup is nonsense, it lacks the strength of competition to rival the WC for a start, when the majority of Worlds best team are excluded.

Should have been off, he got involved in the skirmish near the goal line whilst still wearing his sub bib, instant yellow for entering the field of play to join a fight, then he got a (what should have been second) yellow for fouling and refusing to give up the ball (time wasting).

 

Chile had so many chances. Just snatched at them when needed a cool head

 

To be fair, tricky to give the ball back when you have 5 Chile players all around you pushing you down on the floor
