I think that was Alonso making a point to McLaren. Must have put the engine in quali mode as the drop off the next lap was, well... 3 seconds.
tbf the race was dull other than max and romain. oh and the Vettel @~£££"!!!! £$&&@!! "@£"$!! tyres are &%*£$ ****.... moment. ......Which actually makes it a 2015 classic
He would have had a full power following the pit stop and fresh tyres, even though that is a hell of a difference. Are we sure he didn't cut the final corner!?
I am sure I read somewhere that both engines got turned down after it was impossible for the competition to catch up. Lewis thought it was a power problem but both cars had their engines turned down.
I have a random question. If Verstappen gets onto a podium before he's 18 (which is soon I think) would he be given champaign? Granted it would depend on the country and be pretty stupid, but by the letter of the law the FIA/FOM would be supplying alcohol to someone underage
It's illegal for the teams to control the cars from the pitwall. How could Lewis not know he'd turned the engine down?
It's complicated because I think laws generally refer to the age at which you can purchase alcohol, and Verstappen wouldn't be buying. The drinking age is 21 in the US and 20 in Japan so he'll have a few more attempts after he turns 18. What do they do in lower formulas? Pretty sure they still have champagne in GP2.
Is it banned if it's pre-programmed? So have an engine mapping that says "after 35 laps, cut to 80% power." In a normal race the Mercedes are running 1-2 so it helps them, if they're in a battle then the driver could be told to turn the engine up.
Race edit is up, http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/video.html I find it a little strange that FOM have no radio coverage of Vettel's tire failure. They had Maldonado when his car turned itself off, I wonder how they pick and chose what to broadcast.
Well, I imagine it went something like "Beep Beeping tyres, Beep beep beep, pirelli beep beep beep, Webber beep.
This is from the live texts from Autosport.com 13:22 Kvyat closes on Massa into the Bus Stop, but the Williams racer slams the door. 13:22 Hamilton notes that he's lost a bit of engine power, but is told both cars have been turned down. 13:22 Kvyat is in the tow down Kemmel but he can't get close enough for a pass into Les Combes. Hamilton said he had lost some engine power and I remember his engineer telling him both cars have been turned down.
If I did it it would just be a title and a mini-whinge about the forecast (although a wet qualifying is now forecast so things are moving in the right direction).
10-1 Lewis. I have to agree with Jenson Button when he says Lewis is one of the quickest driver EVER to get into a F1 car.
Lovely Benson has had this quote from Hamilton on proposed tyre-pressure increase: "We'll be out of the optimum range. More wear, less grip; it's going to be a disaster" If so, could we see a two stop race instead of the usual one here?
Same old same old from Pirelli. I genuinely think Pirelli have to idea what happened, Rosberg's shredded tyre was flailing against the bodywork, of course it was covered in cuts. Both tyres left bits of debris all over the place, how can they possibly tell, of the millions of signs of damage, which one "caused" the failure? And as usual there's an excuse for what happened but no explanation of what they're going to do to prevent it. If a tyre's cut by debris it should deflate not explode, why aren't they addressing this? please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image The tyres just aren't strong enough structurally. Edit: A lot of this would be solved by a change to 18" rims, but it's Michelin who want to do this not Pirelli.
