That's how many penalties Arsenal have had this year. I'm not saying they weren't all justified (they weren't all justified) but what I am saying is that this is an unprecedented feat. Never been done before. Nope. Never. Ever.

I think this achievement deserves recognition and should be brought up before every match between now and the end of the season. It won't place any undue pressure on the players. They are all experts in the art of "winning" penalties so should relish this opportunity to shine in the public eye. I for one wish this exciting, groundbraking young team all the success in the world.

It is a huge number of penalties when you think about it. Unprecedented. How many do you reckon they'll get before the season is over? Should we have a poll?

 

Hiya super merry stepen or whatever, I was just arguing with my next door neighbour ( he's an Arsenal fan ,that they have had about 23 ( I exaggerated ) penalties this season so far and we are only just half way through ! Even though I was guessing I didn't realise it was that many ! Can you imagine if United had half that amount the media would be all over us not to mention the ABU's. But then it's Arsenal the media's darlings who play the best football outside of Barcelona. We have only had two penaltie I think so far and yet we are on top of the pack- just proves what I've been saying isn't Fergie brilliant !!!!!

 

He is brilliant, isn't he? I remember plucking a random number out of the air a couple of weeks ago and bantering with my Arsenal supporting mate about their 16 pens. I was actually a little taken aback when I found out that they actually had been awarded 16 pens! Of course, they've had another couple since and I suspect that they will continue to rewrite the records.

 

I thought it was 14 merry? Thats what they said on ITV today?

 

I'll delve into the Arsenal factfile here but I'm pretty sure it's 18 (mainly because they won their 16th the other week and it was pointed out). 14's a bit crap if you're right but still on course for a record.

How dare you people contradict me? Tbh, I've been carrying this across 3 forums and had just decided on 18. I knew they had been awarded a lot of pens so I settled on that number (though a comnmentator did say it was their 16th two weeks ago and they've had 2 since). What I find interesting is it's the United fans and not the Artsenal ones who are pulling me up on this. Not really sure what that means but it's interesting nonetheless.

 

My theory was that if you make a point with enough conviction, particularly when you throw numbers in, people will take it as fact.

It includes whatever games I decide to include! No, it was just a stat I heard. I'd like to check it out myself but am limited in what I can do as I'm a lazy bastard!

 

when you say this year,surely you dont mean 2011,or do you mean 2010 or the 10/11 season

They've had an awful lot in total. In the Champs League they've had pens galore. If you have any sort of database, I'd appreciate it because I still reckon Arsenal are not far off 18 pens this season.

Well from that, it looks like my estimae of 18 was grossly exaggerated. They've scored 11 and missed a few so that 14 looks about right.
