That's horrendous. And feel for those involved and loved ones. Though the report is confusing. 'January 4th stadium' or did it happen then? 'The match is believed to have been a game between Santa Rita and Recreativo do Libolo'. Deja vu? Is it some dictator trying to sanitise Angolan football? All seaters, price out working class, etc 30 years later, the Angolan 17 will finally get justice? Absolutely not making light of either this or Hillsborough. Not quite sure what I am trying to say really. Obviously there are some similarities.
I think the confusion about the teams was due to the early reporting of the incident. Seems clear now in further reports The Stadium is called the January 4th Stadium (but in Angolan, and I don't know why, but they might find the name of our stadium odd) It looks like it's only just opened for big matches at lease and there was more people wanting to get in than they'd anticipated (8000 seater) or they all arrived together and the management was poor. Obviously that just my early take on it
17 people killed at a football match, including children, and you post that Regardless of the reasons behind it you should be embarrassed of yourself
It has been massively underreported on the news hasn't it. Sadly because it's Africa, it doesn't matter. I was trying to read about it last night and drunkenly confusing myself.
