I could believe it because a lot of Canada is wilderness and hunting country. But I'm willing to bet that gun ownership is governed by strict laws, as shotguns are in the UK, and you can't just go out and buy an AK 47 with your groceries from the local superstore as you seem to be able to in parts of the US
