Promotion back up to the Premier League And finances beautifully sound, Once more McNally pulled out of the hat One of the best young bosses around, Full houses every week brimming with hope Waiting to enter the ground, ´Twas not a bad year by any means if you ask me Neil proved quite quickly from the day he came That he´d cope with Championship fare, Steering us uncannily without fail Between the mines, when they´d appear, Culminating in that Wembley day out When most of God´s county was there, ´Twas not a bad year by any means if you ask me But the big question on everyone´s lips Was, would he and the players find, The step up too great, and before very long Find their positions undermined, True, there were bumps and bruises on the way But as yet, nothing too unkind, ´Twas not a bad year by any means if you ask me Owners whose lifeblood runs yellow and green With hearts in just the right place, Bucking the trend to sell, and rake in cash Is certainly no disgrace, And now a chairman to sit at our head With a more recognisable face, ´Twas not a bad year by any means if you ask me Level on points with Chelsea at this time And three places clear of the chop, Twenty points out of the forty, they say Is needed to avoid the drop, And with a close-knit and hard-working squad Who haven´t been allowed to stop, `Twas not a bad year by any means if you ask me And if in ´16 we continue to build To ensure we prolong our stay, In this, one of the best leagues in the world We´ll have done ourselves proud, come May, So onwards and upwards and survival please And then we can all really say, ´Twas not a bad year by any means if you ask me. Greetings RBF, an excellent ode to cap the year. Yes I wonder what 2016 will bring? As AN himself has said, the margins in this league are wafer thin and as long as we remain competitive then we will have hope. I look forward to your efforts in the New Year.
Hi skald bor, a brilliant choice of subject; definitely not a bad year, one for getting out the Glen Ord and celebrating the New Year, hopefully a year for us to continue our celebrations. (Only a wee dram Dave, Cambelltown Loch is not for you LOL). I must admit I didn't harbour any hope of us returning from League One to the Premiership back in those dark days but here we are and given the right management we will continue to confuse those who think we don't deserve to be where we are on merit. My best wishes to you and yours and to all Canary fans whatever their political persuasion, I feel sure there are those on our board that don't hold with our chairman's political views but are united in wanting the best for our club. OTBC. .
Glen Ord is not bad Norkie, but my favourite is 10 year old BruichLaddich, nicknamed the 10 year Laddy!
Hi Norkie, The moment Ed Balls became our Chairman, all political hatchets should have been immediately buried. He is Norwich City through and through and that is certainly good enough for me. Hopefully he may have some useful economic contacts that could help us get a cheap loan, you never know!
Thank you for your epic poetry RBF. This last rendering is possibly your finest yet. Keep up the excellent work and a Happy New Year to you and all your followers.
Happy New Year all, and yes, I totally agree about the Balls, politics should definitely be brushed under the carpet. He´s a true Canary under all that Westminster bluster.
On the football front it wasn't a bad year at all, however on a personal level not so good. Both of my best mates died within a month of each other at just 52 years of age. One was the nicest bloke you could ever wish to meet, unfortunately he contracted a virus a few years back which affected his heart and at one point it looked as though a transplant was the only option. When he first underwent heart surgery he was offered a cancellation slot, it was Friday 13th. The op didn't go to plan and he was extremely ill until he died, suffering numerous mini strokes. He was found dead by another of his friends in the bath, evidently he had been lying there sometime. My other mate who was my best man, suffered from alcohol addiction which led to him being imprisoned for reasons I don't want to go into. He passed away due to multiple organ failure in March the drink had turned him into a man that was extremely intimidating and unrecognisable. Sorry about this miserable post but typing it all out has made me feel somewhat better.
Yes, I always feel sad when I hear of people younger than me dying and count my blessings that I am in reasonably good health and I hope you have a better year on the personal front KIO.. My eldest brother will be 88 this year and still manages to get out for a short stroll most days.
This was naturally only a comment on the footballing year KIO, but I can understand how any personal tragedies might sour that sentiment - far too young to go, both of them.
