Some pretty skinny rear wings turning up this weekend - I wonder if the new tyres will compensate for down force with pure outright mechanical grip here? I cant see past Merc (and Lewis) to be honest but Ferrari keep throwing a curve ball every no and then.
well, the long range weather forecast says light showers in the afternoon. I'd say Merc are the team to beat, as usual, but I made the poll post Qualifying so at least we'll get to see how they line-up. Here, is some good news, Honda have read not606: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/131354/honda-ilmor-boost-creates-mclaren-dilemma I hope it's true.
Anyone know if any tv crew are filming Guy Martin in Williams for a program. I really hope they do, his enthusiasm is so great to watch.
You'd imagine so, it has to be a promotional thing. Too good an opportunity for someone to turn down.
Is it possible Mercedes may do Q2 on the harder to start the race on? Seems like they are not too far off the softer, faster tyre.
It would be nice to see some different start-tyre strategies, personally I wish they'd get rid of the prime tyre rule and let people choose whichever compounds work best with their car.
Binned it. Needs a new survival cell which has to pass scruitneering which in the regs has to be the day after the crash? Obviously still suffering from vertigo on the way up through Eau Rouge
Seemed like he had a little wobble, maybe too much kerb and just couldn't hold it and had to go on gravel. Then no hope of turning away from barrier. He did manage to hit it more of a glancing blow than head on. So he should be fine. I am sure Guy Martin can have it back n the road in a few hrs
Sorry , no I meant I am pretty sure earlier in the day there was talk of it not being able to run until tomorrow . Some scrutineering issue ?
Sorry. I think it might have been that due to a chassis change. Regs preclude them running a new chassis build same day. Think it's something to do with scrutineering. So he had to sit out second practice.
Scrutineering is done in the morning before the practice starts, can't go out for a session unless you pass it. Although the car had originally passed, having to put in a new safety cell effectively means it hasn't been scrutineered, so they have to wait for the next opportunity, which will be tomorrow morning. tbh, I'm a bit surprised F1 doesn't have a rolling scrutineering, it's top echelon run by professionals now, not part-time mechanics
Why has Williams slid down the grid so much this year? OK they lost Bottas but they got a load of money/reduction in bill. Have they lost key people?
Kimi . Why don't Ferrari say to him over the Radio " leave us alone , we know you know what you are doing "...
Mercedes, with Hamilton, looked nailed on, but Vettel popping in a lap within the .5 Merc seem to have for quali has made the choice more difficult. Was hoping for rain so I could go for Max, but I think I'll go back to my early season decision and go for whoever is on 2nd, so Vettel it is.
