There's been calls for him to get a recall, and he's obviously been told ain't happening from the horses mouth (pun intended) so he's removed any further chatter about a potential recall by retiring. The right decision as far as I'm concerned.

EDIT: It appears Southgate told him he was going to recall him and Wayne has said 'no ta' lol

On MNF it was fairly obvious as he told Carra and G Nev he was planning to have a chat with Southgate.

Obviously they weren't chatting about the weather.

Love the way he's got a recall and then given him the finger by refusing it.

I thought he already had retired from England duty, about 6 years ago

The current national team are a joke anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if Rashford decides to do the same.

    No...

Southgate said retire as it'll look better than being dropped.

He was already dropped you melon.....

It was great Gareth Southgate called me this week to tell me he wanted me back in the England squad for the upcoming matches. I really appreciated that.

However, having already thought long and hard, I told Gareth that I had now decided to retire for good from international football.
It is a really tough decision and one I have discussed with my family, my manager at Everton and those closest to me.

Playing for England has always been special to me. Every time I was selected as a player or captain was a real privilege and I thank everyone who helped me. But I believe now is the time to bow out.

Leaving Manchester United was a tough call but I know I made the right decision in coming home to Everton. Now I want to focus all my energies on helping them be successful.

    Old news.

    Retired in 2004.

Nah in all honestly he did his best and always tried hard.

However, like all the England players of the past 10 or so years he was usually crap when it counted.
