Mr Henderson runs one on the level tomorrow then (I supply the set up. I await the ‘punchline’). Cool Macavity (3.10 Newbury) hasn’t run since this very race last year. Was only 7th on that occasion but prior to that he’d run a stormer to finish a very close 3rd at Ascot. That form has a very solid look to it as, the victor that day, Oceane is now perched 10 lbs higher and the runner-up (old boy Steve Rogers) 11 lbs higher. Cool Macavity runs of the morrow off the same rating as at Ascot and if fit enough he certainly looks to have the abiliy to go close.

In the following heat (3.45) I’d take Out of the Flames to be far, far too good in the 2YO Listed heat. After easily winning her maiden at Royal Windsor the old girl ran a great race to finish 3rd in the ‘Queen Mary’ at the Royal meeting. Up to 6 furlongs next time out she didn’t appear to see out the extra furlong and dropped back to the minimum, of the morrow, she should once again excel.

    Good luck, all.

    RISING 6/1 Nottingham 3:35
The form of this ones last run in a Newmarket maiden is turning out extremely well with eight winners coming from the race. Rising raced at the front that day and was also very keen going to post. He has since been gelded and if that has calmed him down a notch or two we could very well see a marked upturn in his form. The Varian trained favourite looked to have one or two mental issues last time and is worth opposing.
The danger is that Meehan saves Rising for a handicap but if that had been the plan you would think he would have had him gelded after his third run and not before. Good luck if you play.

Now then, troops, this could be the spookiest ‘Daily Thread’ of all time. Cool Macavity and Rising are half-brothers. What are the chances of that?!? I must say when I discovered that fact my monocle fell out and I exclaimed, ‘Cor bally blinkin’ blimey!’

The former though is drifting like the proverbial barge and 33/1 is available.

In the 3.45 Newbury today there is a clear fav with Ryan Moore back on top. This filly is not improving and, if anything like her dam, will regress from here on in. With others in the field improving, I can't see that 9/4 being any value at all. If it goes shorter it's a lay. There are a few bigger priced shots that could surprise here (notably Sarshampla 20/1 and Wirral Girl 25/1). If I had to plump for one though it would be Mrs Gallagher at 13/2

In the 16.10 Notts I was going to suggest that the 4/1 generally available for the improving New Approach colt Quloob was good value. Then I noticed Crowley riding so **** it. He has won on him the last twice so one never knows. The 9/4 fav Precision has been brought along gently with handicaps in mind - trained by Stoute = big danger. If I were betting I would dutch the two just in case

Having a go through the card at Newbury
13.40 Robinson Crusoe for a place at 20/1 did OK against Invincible Army on début despite being slowly away and running green. Invincible Army done well since against top class 2yos
14.10. Qaroun 15/8, promising début and Frankie booked
14.40 Persuing 6/1 and Cricklewood Greeen 11/2 dutched
    15.10 Great Sound 9/4
15.45 Mrs Gallagher (see above) 6/1
    16.20 Storm Over 9/4
16.50 Was going for newcomer Beshaayir but at 15/8 I think I'll go for Lamya at 8/1 instead. Decent run on début and Crowley replaced by Levey (wonder why)
    17.25 Paradise Cove 11/8

Might get one from that lot if I'm lucky

Interesting winner of the first race. "kept on under hands and heels to lead final stride". Ryan Moore must have been confident. Decided to look at the pedigree and look what I found. Some crackers all the way down

Well at least I got that right, even with Moore in the saddle. Definitely one to avoid from now. Please ignore the rest <laugh>

When you look at just the short pedigree you generally just notice the sire and damsire and though they are good they wouldn't make you take great notice. What is interesting is however with the pedigree you have printed (other than the very important points you make) are the mare Media Luna (2nd in the Oaks) and her daughter Eva Luna (who was probably her mum's equal). She was also the granddam of the Derby and Arc winner Workforce.
Juddmonte have been clever in mixing up the mares from the UK with time in the US studs with US sires (and vice versa). This is a prime example of that.
