Point taken, but it's the clubs money and playing devils advocate does the club have a duty to the fans?

I think it's imperative we don't sell to Liverpool after all that's happened because if we do it makes us look incredibly unprofessional.
However if they offer say, £15 million more than Chelsea or City does that then change?
I'd say no but I'm not so sure the board would agree.

I think it would be more detrimental to us long term to actually make a stand here

That's odd, SSN have dropped "the Dutch sources close to VD" bit.

Yes it could be, I agree. I'm Just saying that I'd be immensely proud of my club if they did it and now, if Kat phone me up and said, "Hey Fats, what do you think?" I'd say that it would be really good if we became the front runner in trying to stop this nonsense with agents and players behaving this way.

The more I think about it, the more I'd love us to do it.

I know there are hundreds of issues and hundreds of holes in this idea, but my goodness I'd puff my chest out and be proud of the club.

Us and Swansea should stand strong.

    **** em.

Weren't West Brom the front runner when they said no to Berahino? Them acting the way they did hasn't changed anything and after all was said and done they ended up losing out because of it.

Possibly, but I'd back out Board if they stood firm. Time to stop being shat on.

No, we don't that is true. What we do know is we have a player we could probably get about £60m for who wants out. We could get that fee now. What we also don't know for sure is if we say no he won't go and do a Tevez and **** off until January completely refusing to play, which would almost certainly harm his value. We also don't know if the injury he picked up has impacted his ability at all, possibly harming his value, as I'm sure the figures being bandied about are based on his performances pre injury.

Oh I'd back them and I'm sure most football fans would praise our stance in terms of over entitled footballers. I just think that in the end we would lose out so whether it is worth it is debatable.

And therein lies one of the biggest problems of modern football.

Since when did fans give so much of a toss about the money...?

I agree that we also don't know for certain that we don't know he will refuse to play btw. But I think it's extremely unliikely, he's contracted here until he's 31 at the end of the day, and it's a different situation to Berahino.

OK I get your point with money, but it is part of modern football now and has to be factored in. If you want to talk solely about success on the pitch though do you think keeping VVD will propel us to a top 4 side? Do you think selling VVD will turn us into a relegation threatened side? Do you think that if we received a £60m fee and invested it in say 3 players that would help us become a better side than just keeping VVD? There are a lot of hypotheticals in there I admit but I hope you see my point.

Just to understand this so called big breaking new correctly:

A source close to Van Dijk correctly has he will go to Liverpool at some point in the transfer window
Liverpool still HAVE NOT put in an offer
Van Dijk is still on strike / training on his own

Is it me or has nothing changed since the weekend? Who is this source? If he is not an employee of either Southampton or Liverpool it really is not news worthy and completely pointless.

If the source close to Van Dijk is his agent then he is putting the pressure on. But who is he trying to put the pressure on? I wonder if it is Liverpool. He could be saying "Van Dijk is doing his bit now hurry up and put an offer in for him before we start looking stupid!!!". Earlier reports have suggested that Liverpool have completely backed off, even their ex players have quieten down, and they will only put an offer in if Southampton give the thumbs up which Saints will never do so Liverpool won't attempt to buy buy Van Dijk.

Been completely wrong about these things before though.

There's a risk in every decision we make. But I'm with fats, we can't just role over for him, that will set the tone for years to come.

I do see your point completely I just don't completely agree, no biggie.

I think where we differ is I see this as much more than the Virgil transfer saga now. This has become symbolic and it's time to take a stand, like I say I feel we never will otherwise which a shame.

The thing that gets me, is that the whole reporting them to the PL over tapping up was ****ing pointless if we then withhold evidence and sell him to them anyway.
