They've charged the big fish, but there are probably 100s of rank and file officers, club officials and others who could have been charged. Many were complicit in the fabrication and doctoring of witness statements, even if they claim to only have done what they were told to do.

Whilst "I was just following orders" isn't a defence, it can very difficult to resist a direct order in a disciplined service. This is especially the case when it came from the very top and is supported by the government of the day, who seem invincible.

The cover up came from 'on high' and the **** rolled downhill. Judging those at the bottom of the pyramid needs to be done in the light of what those above them did to make them 'go along'. I've seen those on the lower rungs pressured into signing statements they know to be false because they were given no option that seemed viable to them.

Shouldn't the government of the time be charged for putting fans into cages from which there was literally no escape? Regardless of how bad the incredibly bad administration on the day was, if they could have spilled onto the pitch surely most of the deaths could be avoided? And I speak as one of those that remember the scenes being shown on TV, which I guess understandably have never been shown again.

It's even worse when you consider that having the gares open in 1981 was the only thing that stopped it being a Tottenham tragedy.
No lessons were learnt and if they had been 96 lives would not have been lost.

After the 81 semi final when the Sheffield Wednesday Chairman heard the FA suggest expensive changes to the Leppings Lane End to increase crowd safety, he replied, "Nobody died, did they?"The FA left it at that. The police appointed Duckenfield who had not a ****ing clue what he was doing.

Inactivity, incompetence, putting money above the lives of ordinary people and covering up like they always do. It's Grenfell Tower Part I. Shameful.

The FA of the time also need to be charged, considering they allowed football to take place at a ground without a valid safety certificate for ten years - yet time and again they always escape their share of the blame.

Sheff Wed benefited from having their ground improved for the 1966 World Cup.
Because of its large capacity, it was subsequently a regular venue for big games, like F.A.Cup semi finals.
But Wednesday spent most of the time between 1966 and 1989 languishing in the lower leagues and maintenance of a big stadium was probably a low priority on limited funds.
The F.A should have either funded its upkeep or recognised its unsuitability for big crowds and taken it off the preferred list for these games.

Liverpool and Everton’s supporters groups will this weekend call for The S*n to be boycotted in EVERY shop in the country.

A motion from Liverpool’s Spirit of Shankly group - and backed by the Everton Supporters Trust - will be put to the annual meeting of the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF) in Burton on Sunday.

If agreed, it will lead the FSF to “call on all retailers and vendors of newspapers in their areas to stop selling The Sun.”

The motion - which is expected to be voted through - states: “On 15th April 1989, a disaster at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield led, ultimately, to the deaths of 96 innocent fans who had left home that morning to watch a football match.

“Those fans, whose ages ranged from 10 to 67 years old, were unlawfully killed that day.

“Survivors who many as we know have also taken their own lives or had lives irrevocably changed since Hillsborough too.

“Contrary to the facts, the Sun published a front page story with the banner headline ‘The Truth” which contained blatant lies.”

The motion goes on to detail some of the lies printed in the newspaper, including the claim that some fans picked the pockets of victims and that “drunken Liverpool fans viciously attacked workers as they tried to rescue victims and that police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon.”

Spirit of Shankly member Roy Bentham will address the meeting - just three days after an announcement that six people - including former police officers Norman Bettison and David Duckenfield - will face charges over the disaster, after decades of campaigning by the families of those who died.

He will state: “It is sobering to compare the behaviour of those who were in positions of responsibility and public trust with the dignity and courage displayed by the fans on the day and by the families of the 96 who have continued since 1989 to fight for justice whilst coping with the loss of their loved ones.

“The FSF recognises and will not forget the hurt and distress caused to the people of Merseyside and to the wider football family by the lies and smears printed in the Sun, and, in particular, the distress caused to the families of the 96.

“Neither will the FSF forget the Sun’s refusal to apologise properly for the hurt it caused.”

He will add: “The FSF also recognises that Liverpool fans suffered in this instance but that it could have been any set of fans.”

The motion will praise the work of the Total Eclipse of the Sun group who have worked to enforce a boycott of the newspaper in Liverpool - and will call on groups up and down the country to do the same.

Mr Bentham said he believes the motion will be passed and could lead to boycotts of the newspaper “breaking out very quickly everywhere.”

In April Everton followed Liverpool’s lead in banning The Sun from all club premises.

Liverpool have 2 transfer targets - Virgil Van Dijk and Naby Keita. Neither club wishes to sell but by advertising their interest in the players, The Mousers have 'unsettled' theplayers in question.

In fact, so 'unsettled' are the players that one has refused to work for his employer and the other has committed GBH in a completely unprovoked attack.

Say what you like about them Mousers, but they've done their scouting well! Those lads have all the right personality traits and are going to fit right in.

There is much unrighteous indignation on the Mouser Board. It seems that Barcelona taking your best player to the seaside is not nearly as much fun as when you do it to someone else's best player.

What's the Catalan for "Would you like a stick of Blackpool rock and a "Kiss Me Quick" hat?"

I'd normally feel some sympathy when a club has their best player tapped up, but it's hard to muster any in this situation.
I suspect that Southampton fans will find it even more difficult.

I really hope that Southampton remain strong and refuse to sell Van Dyke to the Mousers, money talks but it would be wonderful if they stood up to the tapping up and lies of Liverpool. Even selling him elsewhere and preventing him going to his preferred destination would still be seen as making a stand against illegally approaching players.

As well as `Pool loving media` messiah of the year, he scored a goal or two from outside the box and the odd free kick you know.

Daniel Sturridge picked up a thigh injury in their pre season friendly against Bayern.

In other news, research suggests that bears prefer to defecate in areas with high concentrations of trees.
