Could well be - Championship caused a big hole in finances, so any outgoings on transfers would be better offset within their new fiscal year as that will see the new PL monies coming in Same at my company - our financial year ends on 31st July so working stupid hrs at the moment to finish projects so we can bill them this financial year
Toon fans on twitter are in meltdown that we haven't signed anyone yet but we normally don't do our business until after July 1st anyway.
I'm being slightly facetious. I think they can be agreed and even signed, but just not registered until 1st July.
Like I said last week, I think because we are not front of the queue, we are going to have some deals coming through pretty late - maybe well into August. People will be coming back from holidays now as we move into July and the new season so I expect things will start moving more quickly soon.
Think the sign some form of "pre contract" agreement - allows the club to tie up a player before they actually sign a formal contract
The TV Money from the PL for the 2017/18 season is paid before the 01/07/2018, and the FFP and annual finances run Jul-Jul, therefore if we are looking to off-set any transfers against the money are forecasting to make this year then it would make ideal financial sense to wait until the 01/07/2017 to start completing deals. This would minimise jul 16-17 losses from being in the championship. I do think our match day revenues and merchandise sales would have increased. The club is probably as popular as it's ever been over the last 10 years. Shirt sales seem to be on the increase, I do think with a couple of top purchases and a cemented position mid table next year with Rafa incharge we could really look to build. I just can't wait for the season to start again
"fake" losses are one thing - generally just shifting money around to create the impression of breaking even / loss etc. if we stump up on players, this will be actual loss which is an entirely different thing
