Forgive the intrusion but I really like one in the Market Rasen bumper tomorrow; SAMSON THE MAN 100/30 Not particularly fancied on debut but ran a belter and can go one better here.
Very interesting pedigree being by Violence (son of Medaglio d Oro) which is a line I really like. Obviously worry is the Ryan yard have had issues this season and only now allowed to run them again. One to note when it debuts
Originally went through the ring for $7,000 as a yearling but Stephen Hillen coughed up 210,000 gns for it a year later. Thats some pinhooking and he must look very impressive!
Those bookie chaps have arguably had the better of exchanges so far this week with just four favourites obliging and three Ballydoyle hotpots overturned along with Wesley Ward’s hotpot. The day’s banker looks like Winter in the Coronation Stakes as the dual Guineas heroine should account for the Pouliches winner Precieuse on this ground and Dabyah, who has not been seen for two months since the Fred Darling. So will everybody be rushing in for Caravaggio in the Commonwealth Cup? He is unbeaten, including beating trees on his seasonal bow, but the odds reflect where he comes from and the hype as on the book he has little in hand of Harry Angel. Whilst most in here are just making up the numbers, Blue Point has valid claims if it does not all go to plan for Ryan Moore. Of course he could be on the next Ballydoyle wonder horse... After the Derby form was franked yesterday, the King Edward VII sees several of the Epsom vanquished vying for the traditional compensation race. The favourite Crystal Ocean skipped Epsom and comes here fresh but I prefer form. I did my cash in the Derby on BEST SOLUTION, who ran well for a long way but suffered from being too close to the pace. I do not see this being suicidally run, with Permian probably trying to make the running and steal it, so similar tactics may prevail this time. A friend of mine gave me a tip on Tuesday for “Dermot Weld’s Haripour each way in the Queen’s Vase” but I correctly figured when I looked at the betting that it is not an each-way price, it is owned by the Aga Khan; and when I looked at the form it won a moderate maiden last time and will need to improve significantly to feature. I did not like to ask my friend but I suspect that his ‘tip’ came from a dodgy source (telephone tipster or the like) as he does not know anyone in Ireland!
Best bet of the beek on Alpha Centauri - slow away from the gate but won with any amount in hand under hands and heels last time out. Visually impressive. Also an unoriginal treble with the 2 nags pays around 9/1
Very interested in Noseda's TAKE ME WITH YOU at 14/1 in the Albany. She has a similar profile to his previous winners LA CHUNGA and SANDER CAMILLO - US bred and coming to Ascot having been beaten (but run creditably) on debut.
3:05 Royal Ascot - Khalidi 18/1 EW. Its last run was in the Derby which came only 8 days after its previous run and although it was probably worth a go, it was always going to be asking a bit much. Form before that wasn't too bad albeit a bit inconsistent. Top jockey on board today who has already had a winner for the yard this week and the price looks too big to ignore especially with 4 places on offer with Paddys.
Looks like another minefield for punters today. No favourites I'd want to get stuck into, and if you want to take any or all of them on, you will need the old pin and blindfold. I'm tempted by the Coronation Stakes though. The dual British and Irish guineas winner is long odds on, while the winner of the French equivalent can be backed at double figures. Whether Precieuse constitutes a greater threat to the favourite than John Gosden's Dabyah remains to be seen. Maybe I'll dutch the pair of them. Probably I'll lay the favourite, depending on how the market looks nearer to the off. Either way Winter will probably win, but at that price it's too tempting to take her on.
Good morning peeps Some more puzzles to solve today, and no doubt I will fail in all of them, but try I must. Alpha Centuari looks a Natural in the opener, so backed both! Others include Harry Angel, Best Of Days, Stradivarius and Sixties Groove. Can't see Winter being turned over, so no bet. Good luck all
No one fancying Crystal Ocean then? The Dante form franked by Benbatl yesterday (though not in The Derby). The fact Stoute's charge comes straight here should count in his favour.
I'm all over Crystal Ocean in a big way. Originally thought Best of Days in this one but bound to need the run. Crystal Ocean won't have to improve much to take this, and I think improvement is guaranteed. Stoutes record in the race is really good and he's been aimed at this for some time and comes here fresh. Maximum bet for me
